I recently heard Melbourne Tyres has now closed down.

I'm sure many people have used this service or sought advice from Joey, the owner, since opening  40+ years ago.  He'll be missed.

The builder mentioned it would be reopening shortly as a new shop

Another useful  local service gone...A great loss.

It's true. Drivers will now have to travel as far as...about 150 feet to the huge Kwik-Fit across the road if they want to get tyres fitted.

Hey everyone,

I'm a reporter at Southwark News. Am keen to get in touch with Joey to write a story about the business. Does anyone have a good contact for him? If so, please could you email me at [email protected]?

Thanks,
Herbie

  • Thanks 1

Dulwich needs more coffee shops,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Could do with a nice affordable greasy spoon type set up since Maria at the Grove cafe moved on. Dulwich cafe now also gone. They were great little places and always a familiar face or two about when we paid our weekly visits.

Can't help you with the introduction to Joey, but just a random word of thanks to you @Herbie Russell Southwark News! Your name is on a lot of the Southwark News articles that get posted on here. There's no local democracy or local community without local media, so thank you for what you do! 👍

Hi Herbie

A friend has contacted him and he's declined to be interviewed.

Good news, rubberlovers!

The shop has reopened as Dulwich Tyres & Car Services. 020 8299 6467. It seems very busy.

I wouldn't believe your radio @zork...

Please @Administrator could the title be changed to "Dulwich Tyres opens at old Melbourne Tyres location" or similar, when you have a moment?

  • Agree 1
  • Administrator changed the title to Melbourne Tyres closed down (Update: Dulwich Tyres opens in its place)

    • Thanks for the response and to some who PM’d me. I’m now included on the Patient Participation Group (meeting next in Dec) so I’m going to feed back the comments here, good and bad. Update today to PPG members is that, as some of you have said, there is a new contact in place with GP practices with effect from 1 Oct. That appears to be the driver for some of the changes we’ve seen at The Gardens. From the responses here, though, patients might be getting an inconsistent message from the Surgery; I was definitely told that appointments must be made through the app, and only the app. It was only when I expressed concern that a strictly online service would not be suitable for all, that I was told by the receptionist that she could complete the request for me (or others if needed). Even then, then patients would need to await a text from the Practice. Perhaps we are just teething problems with the new provision…Happy to bring any and all comments to the PPG meeting (although I’m aware that the most digitally-excluded people probably aren’t on EDF!) Thanks folks.
    • Hi everyone! For the past 12 years, we’ve been turning 27 Oglander Road into a spooky Halloween stop for all the trick-or-treaters — and this year it’s going to be our biggest and scariest one yet👻🎃 Expect creepy decorations, surprises, and even a few hide-and-seek prizes for the brave ones who dare to look 👀 We’ll be set up from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Thursday 31st October, so come by if you fancy a fright and some Halloween fun! 🕸️ Everyone’s welcome — kids, grown-ups, and ghouls alike!
    • Went to a fireworks display maybe 20 years ago at the Crystal Palace, it wasn't bonfire night, can't remember why it was being held, Capital Radio were there. There were people hanging from a crane, classical music, and quiet fireworks,  It was lovely, still dramatic with the colours but no loud bangs. Not sure why this hasn't become the norm.
