I just wondered if anyone knew what the score was with the alarm that keep myself & Mr P awake all last night? I think it is somewhere on North Cross Road. Started about 11.30pm last night, I was going to go out & investigate this morning, but it seems to have finally stopped...Just wondered if it might have anything to do with the young men who broke a window in the Thai Corner Cafe the other week?

Funny, I was walking up Northcross Road at about 10:15pm and there was an alarm going off at the chemist. I wouldn't have liked to live nearby, it was quite deafening. Does nobody report these things to the police, what happens, does anyone care. I did nothing, call me a hypocrite!

I once called the Police because my neighbour's house alarm was going off and they were on holiday. The response from the Police was 'have you actually seen anyone breaking in?' As I hadn't, and didn't fancy investigating myself in the darkness of night, they told me that if it hadn't stopped after an hour call the environmental people at the Council.

Rubbish.

I was less bothered by the noise and more worried for my neighbours that their house was being robbed. It seems that unless you actually witness first hand a break-in, the police aren't bothered. I appreciate there are more serious crimes to attend to, but being robbed is pretty serious too don't you think?

Alarms are temperamental and I know mine has been off a few times. My first reaction is never ?OMG there?s an undesirable in my house? but always ?OMG what about next door?. But my next door neighbour is a honey and never complains!

Alarms just deter a burglar into going to a house without an alarm because, let?s face it, we all want an easy life.

    • Ah sorry, it was comedy.
    • I have never used AI in my life. It's just notes from my forthcoming monograph on light industry in Dulwich and Camberwell 1879-1946 (dates chosen for obvious reasons).
    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
