EDITED 21 October to say - IT WON AN AWARD!

The Ivy House was on Newsnight yesterday (13/08/13) as part of a feature on the decline of the British pub and what's being done to slow it. You can see it here:

If you're quick about it you can also see the pub on The One Show, available on iPlayer till 8PM on 14/08/13. It was included in a story about localism (around 50 minutes into the programme).

Not really, shareholders were invited to 2 preview nights before the bank holiday opening. The actual launch was soft, eg no fanfare or grand opening. I assume this is to allow them to get establised. I understand there are already some events booked for later this month.
we went last friday night for a swift pint before going on elsewhere for dinner. it was certainly busier than i'd ever seen it outside a "pull the other one" night. it's such a big space that it's difficult to say how full it was, but there were definitely people waiting for tables and a really nice buzz about the place with a good mix of people. the food looked nice enough too. not jaw-droppingly amazing but then they aren't claiming to be doing anything other than pub grub so i'd say they seem to have it bang on.

If all East Dulwich pubs were about to be turned into flats, but you could save just three of them as pubs for heritage reasons, which three would you choose (I'm ignoring what I think of them as current drinking establishments)?

I would choose:

The EDT - flagship pub as you enter the area;

The Plough - ditto, and it used to be a bus route destination; and

Great Exhibition, despite its change of name.

Well, exactly. Nice, chunky, honest to goodness pub grub. Not a jus or truffle in sight.....

We went last night. Really friendly staff, excellent choice of beers and good burger with nice crispy chips; they also do great pieminister pies. Such a great pub! It was nicely busy but easy to get a table. They seem to be having live music on sunday afternoons.

    • Please be aware that there is a huge sheet of ice approx 12ft x 6ft on the road at the top end of Avondale Rise on the left hand side approaching Ivanhoe Road.  The council was told earlier this morning, but advised that, due to a reduced service, it is unlikely that grit /salt will be spread before Monday!  Several (thankfully minor) accidents have happened since this morning.  A resident has thoughtfully erected a temporary sign to advise traffic of the hazard, but bearing in mind that temperatures are due to fall to -4 over the weekend and this is on a bus route, please be very careful if driving on this road.
