Nero
I'm having very woody lavender removed and want to replant with flowers that will more or less look after themselves. It's in a small plot of land beneath a bay window. I have a horror of pansies and other such municipal plants. Want to cram them all together and create a nice display. Would prefer natives but anything that attracts wildlife is good. Peckhamgatecrasher
Wander down to the Wildlife Centre on Marsden(?) Road, they sell native shrubs and flowers. Asset
Heucharas are good, seem to be quite fashionable at the moment as I am seeing them everywhere. They have different shades of green or purple foliage with tall thin flower spikes, also of differing colours. There is a large clump of them I noticed in Dulwich park the other day that are all flowering and they were absolutely covered with bumble bees.Peonies are lovely, nice foliage although flowers are fairly short lived and need plenty water in spring in order to flower.Lychnis also tolerate full sun and dry conditions and look nice in a large clump. DGClandscaping
You could also try Sedums and Alliums (Squirrels don't like that taste of Allium bulbs so you have a good chance they will last until next year!) amongst others. We are expecting a fairly large delivery of perennials this week, so pop in over the weekend and you should have quite a large selection to choose from. Asset
sorry if this is boring to others but Nero, I just thought about bottle brush plants (Callistemon). I've got one and the bees love it. Loves full sun and is evergreen so all year round interest. TillieTrotter
I love the bottle brush plant they grow everywhere in Menorca and are very vibrant. Unfortunately mine died after the first year. Then again, I can only grow weeds:( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3486-good-perennials-for-full-sun/#findComment-110912 Share on other sites
