Since when did Sunderland become the benchmark for the quality of the Premier League?

Last time I looked they were bottom.

If a player hasn't played in a league, then it's perfectly reasonable to say he's unproven in that league. Messi is unproven in the PL. Bale is unproven in La Liga, etc, etc.

Any 'class' and 'consistency' a player has shown in another league is no guarantee that he will be successful in the PL, e.g. Veron, Shevchenko, Robinho etc, etc.

Let's assume your 'fact' that the quality of La Liga is better than the PL, technically anyway, as most foreign players admit how much quicker and physical the PL is compared to foreign leagues. Will Ozil have come up against clodhoppers like Huth and Shawcross before? He has to prove himself against that type of player. Lots of other factors to consider too, e.g. climate, culture, food, more vocal fans, a mid-week League Cup away game on a frozen pitch at Barnsley.

If he isn't a success in the PL, it doesn't mean that he isn't a great player, just that his game isn't suited to the PL...

RD did you ever mention these factors when the likes of Ronaldo et al came to Prem, or was your opinion coloured by the fact that he was playing for united? I don't recall you bringing this up when the likes of Oscar, Ramires, Hazard,Aguero,Silva and numerous other johnny foreigners came to the Prem. Or is it just a United anti Arsenal bias coming to the fore. By the way Sunderland has more than its fair share of clod hoppers, and I have to say i don't share your pessimism in respect of the little man. We shall see.

I think it was the usual anti Arsenal thing as I don't recall him ever making such comments in respect of foreign players who've joined other clubs, just saying. And by the way he played in Germany for a few years so the winter thing doesn't wash.

Well actualy when Ronaldo came to the PL he was not anywhere near the player he is now or was when he left the PL. He was younger than Ozil of course. But if Ozil was so good would Madrid let him go? Maybe they were trying to balance the books.

As for anti Arsenal remarks you need to look at your own comments PD which highlighted MU's good fortune against Palace but no mention of the Arse's against Sunderland. What I dislike about football fans in general is that they are so one eyed about their club and even that is blinkered.

Maybe that's because no one was banging on about how great they were going to be...

When I turned on the radio this morning (after a very early night) I was actually delighted to hear Chelsea lost. I don't think I'd feel like that about any other team unless it was a result affecting the team I support. I suppose I mustn't like them much.

Got a message back within a day to say medication ordered from chemist.
