Anyone tried this service out yet? The pitch is that it's an Ocado style home delivery service for your local independent shops. So you go to their website, order what you want from a range of local shops and they collect it all and deliver to your door. Same day service is also offered.

Not withstanding that a weekly stroll down the shops is a pleasure in itself, for those who are time poor, lots of kids in tow etc its sounds like a handy alternative.

That said, the only truly local shops i can see at the moment are Franklins farm shop, Moxons and Ayres the bakers - but I'm guessing more might follow soon. On the SE22 run they also include the Ginger Pig and a load of Borough market traders...

It's been mentioned a few times on here and yeah I've used it a couple of times

They push back on weekend deliveries for the very reason you mention - better for people to be out physically supporting the shops, but acknowledging that during the week people are at work

Its has worked like a dream when I?ve used it and very friendly service

Mmmm, we tried it once. The substitutes were crazy. I seem to remember moxons sending us a load of sardines instead of a single fish.

It's a great idea but the reality is the shops they use stock the very things like fish, meat and veg that you want to see and choose and because they are small indie shops they don't necessarily have the stock you order.

Great in principle, not so great in practice.

    • It’s a flat fee levy payable by guests staying in hotel and hostel rooms, so added to the bill.  This already happens in Manchester and Liverpool ( I think in Liverpool it’s a percentage, so the more expensive rooms pay more). I read somewhere that Edinburgh is doing this next year? Charges of this kind are becoming common around the world. I think it absolutely makes sense for Southwark and other boroughs are bound to follow.
