Hi there

As per the title really, need to buy new radiators and skirting boards.

Skirting boards need to be quite wide, the type they have in Travis Perkins is ?11 per metre before any discounts which seems quite high to me. I think they were the solid wood ones. Any ideas would be great.

Radiators, again any good ideas for this would be great. We need four and the ones we were looking at online were about ?250 each which is again quite high.

Would be really grateful for any ideas.

Cheers

Try Whitten Timber, Gibbs & Dandy, and Jewsons for skirtings, all have local branches. Skirtings tend to be 'solid wood', it's actually a softwood. You can get MDF skirtings. Never used them though, no character.

What style of rad are you looking at. ?250 isn't a lot if you're after big old school type rads...

Thanks red devil. Will have a look at all of those suggested.

Re: the radiators, yes think we're hoping for cast iron column radiators. I know what you mean about ?250 not being a lot, meant it more in terms of our empty wallets really, and the fact we have to multiply it by 4.

Of all the things to spend money on when doing up a house, skirting boards and radiators has got to be among the least gratifying!

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, much appreciated.

Since you seem pretty knowledgeable about these things, please can I pick your brains about refurbished period radiators? I've seen some online that look really nice, and cheaper than brand new. But I have no idea whether buying radiators like these is a good idea or not.

Any advice would be brilliant!

Cheers

    • You don't need a gym to lose 10kg. Get a set of dumbbells and maybe a resistance band, find a HIIT channel you like on youtube and workout in your room, eat clean and go out every day. £115/mo is ridiculous. I thought they were supposed to be about £20 to £30 and most people give up come February anyway.
    • Point taken..I go 3-4 times a week and have done every week for several years however £115 a month is still a lot of money for many people (myself included) for a 'non essential' One can if one wishes excersise by running or Cycling, swimming once in a while. Gym membership IS a luxury...
    • Tawny owls are hooting in Dawsons Heights very near me. But very elusive birds. Sadly now on the amber list.  I have heard the owls every night for the past couple of weeks  It is good to know they are here. They are quite loud so I think they are very near. I have never seen an owl in the wild before and wish I  could  see them.
