I have a favour to ask...

My sister works for Brook, a charity that offers free confidential sexual health advice and services to young people, it's a cause she's passionate about and they do great work.

The charity is currently updating it's image a bit and part of that is redesigning the logo, which is where you all come in. If you go to the Brook website (I've only just learnt how to do the thing where you make the link into words BTW, I'm very proud) you'll see a purple blob asking you to vote. Click on the blob and you can look at the shortlist of designs and vote for your favourite.

It might seem like a really small thing, but branding (as I believe it's called) can be really important in how the charity is perceived and how identifiable and memorable it is.

If this forum is anything it's opinionated, so go on, take a few minutes and express an opinion, it'll really help*.

Thanks!

*If any of you have piles of spare cash lying around that would also help tons.....;-)

Good for your sis Annaj. It's the sort of resource that sometimes gets either forgoten about or portrayed as overly 'liberal' and encouraging all sorts of carrrying on amongst the young 'uns. I am aware of several young people who have benefited hugely from the help offered.

Not parents, not social care just objective and informed advice.

Good people.

Annaj it's not a small thing! It shouldn't be that difficult!

As a primary colour red is associated with danger, so NO!

2 and 4 are both too clinical to appeal to young people.

5 is too busy.

3 is the default.

Are you asking people for the veneer of democratic respectability? It really shouldn't have reached this far!

I think it's a brilliant contribution, and your sister is the bee's knees.

Thank you HonoloochieB and Huguenot (love the middle of the night posting btw makes forum life much more interesting for the shift working forumite).

I think she's the bee's knees too!

I don't think it's really about respectibility, more about appealing to their target group, the old logo is a bit dated.

Sadly, most of us are well out of their target age group, but varied opinions are still relevant.

Thanks everyone who's looked. I hope you're all voting as well.

Had some feedback from my sister about this today she said the comments on here were really interesting.

In case you're interested at the last count design No.2 was the favourite with No.5 and No.4 close behind. Huguenot's default choice No.3 is in last place.

They are also aware of the potential "stop" or "danger" associations with red, but are trying it with people anyway, because it's done pretty well as the colour of prominent AIDs charities.

Finally, although most of us are not the age group that Brook helps, we are in the age bracket of most of their supporters. So, our opinions are important since the image has to appeal to those who might fund, as well as those who might use, the service.

Thanks again everyone who's commented and voted. Keep it up!

Pongo, I sometimes post when pissed. I attempt to be relevant but don't always achieve it.

In this instance you haven't, you dopey bastard.

Steady on Huguenot, I voted for number 5 (in more ways than one I suppose).

Pongo, I'm really not sure what your point is.

I realise it's a bit cheeky to post on here asking people to take part in this survey, but it's not like I don't use the forum regularly and it doesn't really do any harm and might just help out a great charity.

    • Call National Grid and say you have a problem with a gas pipe  0800 111 999  and with luck they will fix it for free.  Most likely my diagnosis.   Some nutter had done their own gas plumbing in my house and National Grid blanked off both a supply to an old gas fire and a wrought iron pipe in the bathroom that supplied to the old bathroom water heater originally in the house. Extremely unlikely to be connected, may be from the days of gas lighting (mainly over by the 1920s) .  Gas connection will have long since been modernised.  If it hasn't been blanked off then just turn it on and sniff, or if you are like me light it.  This is how gas fitters did it in the past,  Although at your own risk (you are more likely to asphyxiate from natural gas, it is not poisonous, and the smell is an additive, so you can smell leaks. Chances are you are old enough to have used Bunsen burners at school. The end of the video is great, the biggest source of gas is your boiler, and if you house hasn't blown up already......
    • Thanks, that's very helpful to have that confirmed! Really wasn't sure what we were dealing with. Will look into a gas engineer...
    • Ah, dozy me.  Thanks for pointing that out.   I was so impressed by the MOT details being there I  didn't  expect anything else could be so didn't check any further.  I've not owned anything with an internal combustion engine for decades.  Recently found a light tool that I've a dim memory of using for (??) timing checks.
