Hello

Hello everyone,

I have some very sad news to share. Many of you will know Akif from Dulwich Dry Cleaners on Lordship Lane, and I thought you might like to be aware that the shop will be closed soon for his funeral.

Tragically, Akif has passed away from injuries sustained in a vicious dog attack.

How awful. Poor man. Was he from the dry cleaners near the Post Office?

Unless I've misunderstood, it seems that the police were already aware that this was a dangerous dog, so why wasn't it removed from its owner before?

That is correct, the chap with the beard by the post office.

I'm heartbroken to read this. He was such a nice guy.

I'd like to lay some flowers outside the shop, does that sound appropriate?

That sounds thoughtful and lovely of you. I would personally go inside the shop and ask and see what they would prefer. I am sure they will be touched that you/we feel his loss within the community.

I was working on the assumption they would be closed when I did it

The guy running Mr Simms (apologies, I don't know your name) has a collection going, he's going to ask the family if flowers are acceptable or donate to charity.

If anyone wishes to donate, go see him

Thank you for this, I’ve passed the message on to others. That is a lovely gesture. The owner at Mr Simms is called David.

Shop was closed today & flowers left outside…..

the funeral couldn’t be so soon, could it?

Depend on religion it can be very soon.

Yes I agree but they have to prepare for a court case which will require huge amounts of evidence?

in other circumstances it would be an almost immediate burial

As he died of wounds in a hospital there would be no need of a post mortem. The recorded circumstances and the death certificate would be sufficient in any court case. For those whose faith requires swift burial, courts and coroners are generally careful to meet requirements. Hold ups are generally only likely where defendants dispute cause of death, highly unlikely in these circumstances.

    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.
    • Dawson Heights again  2 lifts out of order at ladlands block Christmas Eve so of course the 🛗 will not be repaired tomorrow Christmas Day or Boxing Day or when how do elderly or mothers with children and prams and food and presents get to the floors and with the 10 minutes you get to drop off  to park and not get a Pcn fine and delivery food to relatives who can’t leave their house unbelievable Southern housing does any know email address of Coe of southern housing
    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
