Help needed!

I am in urgent need of some help in editing a DVD of footage of a no-budget sci-fi action epic originally shot on Super 8 in 1984. I know what needs to be done, but I need the technical assistance to do it. The work should take between 6 and 9 hours.

I have no money, but if there is anything else I can do in return, I'll be very happy to do it, and it's a fun movie. Editing it will be fun.

And I'll make delicious meals to help the process.

Hi Ishmael, I work in post production. Whilst I'm not offering to do it (I'm not an editor), I wanted to hopefully give advice.

How have you calculated that it's 6-9 hours? Editing a 2 minute film can take an editor 2 days to do. What's the duration of the film? Most freelancers would charge around ?400 per day.

You may find a very willing graduate, although most will be more experienced in digital editing. Alternatievely, try a small post house outside of London, e.g http://www.videoimageprod.co.uk/video_editing.htm

Good luck!

Video footage on a DVD is compressed so it takes up less space, it really isn't ideal for re editing, there will be a significant loss of quality especially if you try and compress it again to put back on a DVD or on Vimeo etc at the end.

What NickT said. In my experience it ends up taking much more time to edit from a DVD either because you have to convert the footage to a more usable format or if you don't do that, having to render it constantly in the timeline, only to watch it fall apart with a load of weird green flashes anyway. And even if you get it work, it looks awful. Is there no tape master?

Can't offer to help for free either, I'm afraid.
