Enable
Walking around ED at lunchtime shocked at the amount of owners walking their dogs. Do they not realise they are risking their dogs life by doing this? 5 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/363712-dogs-out-today-in-unbearable-heat/ Share on other sites
d walker
I know, absolutely crazy. A dog has never died because it didn't have a walk, but dogs do die if walked in this heat. Perhaps the owners should put on a thick fur coat, take their shoes off and jog round the pavements, and see how that feels! 🤬 1 6 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/363712-dogs-out-today-in-unbearable-heat/#findComment-1712093 Share on other sites
zork
Agree that you have to be so careful dogs in this heat… but please dont judge so quickly. Its one thing if you see a dog at midday being thrown the ball endlessly, but if you see a dog en route / somewhere - You dont know if that dog was being walked to the vet for an emergency appointment.. or taken to a friend’s house that is cooler etc. And if they live in a flat, they might desperately need to be taken out for a quick pee / poo ! Angelina
It’s far too hot. Dogs should not be out and you’re right to post this. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/363712-dogs-out-today-in-unbearable-heat/#findComment-1712098 Share on other sites
NewWave
As a former Pug owner I get really upset and angry when I see owners of brachycephalic breeds (all bull dog breeds, pugs etc) taking them out in hot sun..Those breeds should be walked very early in the morning and at dusk ideally or if they need a pee just pop out for a moment or two..do NOT drag the dog around panting like a fur accessory. I REALLY want to 'have a word' with the owners but when i once did that a couple of years ago (frenchie pup being dragged along panting in the heat kept trying to lie down in obvious distress) its female owner told me to f-off and mind my own buisness so now I avoid the aggro. Angelina
Don’t be intimidated. People walking dogs in the heat are either ignorant or cruel. It’s worth thinking they are ignorant. My favoured tactic is asking if their dog wants water ( yes I carry water). I don’t care if people get offended. If they care about their dog, they’d understand. I’m also quite happy to ask the direct question, ie why are you walking you dog? Do you realise how hot the pavement is and how they will overheat? And so on Edited June 29 by Angelina 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/363712-dogs-out-today-in-unbearable-heat/#findComment-1712122 Share on other sites
beansprout
Ignorant owners / since ED is now full of middle class yuppies, yes very rude but I care not… one would hope that they would not drag their darling little kiddies out to the shops in the heat in case of heat stroke etc so why in gods name do they think it is acceptable to take their dogs out? If this is not ignorance or indeed cruelty, then please enlighten me…. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/363712-dogs-out-today-in-unbearable-heat/#findComment-1712125 Share on other sites

CPR Dave
Time to ban dog ownership altogether. beansprout
Weather going to be hot from today thru to weekend so I hope all dog owners walk their pooches early in the morning or in the cool of the evening. Woofers can survive the odd day without going for walkies in the heat or having to race around with their pack in the heat. Try brain games with them around the house - hid treats for them to find, given them a kong.. Mental stimulation is as good and beneficial as walkies and does tire them out. And whilst on the subject of heat and dogs, do remember that leaving a couple of windows open while you run into a shop etc to get groceries etc …. Is not good enough / the inside of a car obviously gets very very hot… and one could be delayed in ship, thru no fault of your own - meanwhile, your woofer is suffering. Common sense really and if you are a new owner, probably really never thought it through ie walking dogs in heat or leaving them in car in heat. The majority of people on this site are caring, supportive people only offering advice, expressing concern when they see stupidity. HeadNun
It's continuing because you've continued it. Not because there has been a spate of dead dogs lying on the street in the last few days. Most people aren't half-wits. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/363712-dogs-out-today-in-unbearable-heat/#findComment-1713415 Share on other sites

Angelina
What is obvious to one may not be to another. DOGS DIE IN THE HEAT. PAVEMENTS BURN THEIR FEET. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG OUT IN THE HOT SUN. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG (OR CHILD) IN A CAR UNATTENDED. I don't think it's just dog-owners who are half-wits. An actual human has taken a dump in a newspaper and left it lying on CP Road. Flies are having a field day. I ought to tell the council but pity the poor person sent to clean it up. beansprout
For clarity, since the heat seems to be getting to people - my friends in Hampshire, Essex, Cornwall tell me that the same insanity is happening there - probably in other counties to! I have in the past seen adults walking last year with young children with no hat or to the best of my knowledge suns-cream on and idiots in Dulwich Park allowing their children or who knows maybe it is the au pair or nanny taking the kids to the park when it is over 30 degrees.. I rest my case - doesn’t matter if you have 4 feet or 2 - 4 feet suffer more as generally have a coat and no protection on their feet / 2 feet at least have foot protection. Like I said, I am just joining the conversation - everyone has a right to their own opinion. For all you know or anyone, if a person has taken a dump might have been unwell, couldn’t find toilet in time.. numerous reasons - mental health problems, homeless whatever. Not pleasant I agree, but get a pair of rubber gloves and deal with it. We all live in the same community and in this heat with kids about, would have thought plus flies etc - do it if you live on the same street or area / people just walk past I assume and god knows how long council would take to come. Says nothing about human nature - not my problem… seems to be the way of the world in towns these days.
