I went to the pool today, glad to have it open again, but was pretty shocked at the state of the pool itself.  The floor of the pool had loads of patches of what looked like sand plus a lot of underwater floating debris, which looked like tissue.  I am sure everyone swimming saw all of it, hard to miss. Is the filtration not sorted, or is this how it is now, I wonder.

That doesn't sound very hygienic.

I would like to start swimming there again, but that has put me off.

Why would anybody be taking tissues into the water?

Who is responsible for the quality of the water? Surely there must be some sort of public hygiene regulations relating to this?

I only stayed in 15mins.  Then showered well!!  I don't know who is responsible.  I can't figure out who to make a complaint to, other than the centre itself, and since everyone (staff) can see the problem, that obviously isn't going to make a lot of difference.  Actually, I don't even know if it was sand.  It just reminded me of seaside pools when I was a kid, when there was always sand in them.

I have swum in it several times since it's reopened.  No problems.  The sand stuff is a bit off-putting but like all pools they'll have to test and log the water quality regularly so I think it's unlikely to be a health issue.  The water is clearer than a pool I use regularly near my work - also with no issues.

Did you query the tissues and sand?

Is anyone else having difficulty booking Silver Swim sessions (Tuesday and Thursday between 3pm-4pm?) Almost all the spaces are taken before the online booking system opens at 10pm several days before. Last night there appeared to be one space available for next Tuesday. I tried to book at one second past 10pm but was unsuccessful. This seems to have been a recent phenomenon. I made a telephone call this morning but just received a recorded message saying that the voicemail box was full. Am I right in assuming that in person bookings are now taking precedence over online ones?

    • We did fine for 300 years with the Royal Mail before the current "competitive" shambles was introduced. Now we have multiple companies with multiple vehicles making deliveries to the same streets every day, none of the workers are employees with decent working conditions or any job security, and consumers have to deal with x different distribution networks and apps and platforms and drop-off points... https://postandparcel.info/12422/news/uk-royal-mails-monopoly-to-end-on-1-january-2006/
    • That's certainly the narrative that runs ad infinitum on the Forum but I wonder how true it is. Speaking for myself I'm very happy M&S, Superdrug, Pret and, in the last century, Sainsbury's arrived and judging from the business they do I'm not alone.
    • There are Christmas lights?! Or a, I missing something?
    • Though it's often the big corporates who dig deepest. For small independents that's a bigger ask, decorating, when they do their own premises is cost enough. And we're normally happy not to have the big corporates in LL.
