Broadband recommendations (- swapping from Sky)

We want to change our broadband as Sky broadband has got too expensive - despite being long term customers and haggling with them it's still £34 pm.

Can anyone recommend a better alternative? Thanks!

Recommend Community Fibre, if you have their network in your area.

Otherwise, neighbours recommend Vodafone fibre broadband which operates over BT network and also cheaper than Sky for new customers.

I’ve recently switched from sky for exactly the same reason and moved to vodaphone and delighted with the service … be warned when you finally switch off they’ll beat the competitors 🤣

you have to really, truly switch, not just threaten to. Then, when you have actually accepted someone else and they have been contacted to change the account, then and only then will they make you a seriously competitive offer.

I've been stuck on Plusnet ADSL for far too long after my initial contract, with a rate including a wired phoneline that's substantially more than the figure above.  If/when I switch to fibre and VOIP with whomever, will I be able to count on its having CLI and voicemail much as I currently have?   And has anyone managed to squeeze a deal from their longstanding provider that doesn't in the first instance include a commitment to pay off the whole of a new time-limited contract (say the ?usual 18m) if you leave it early?

Sally Eva, what gets you out of the contract you've just accepted with the new provider, after your laggard current ISP comes up with a better offer?  Statutory cooling off period perhaps?

Community Fibre - £21 per month for 150 mbit/s plus TV.  I think a package with voice calls is £5 more but I have not had a fixed landline since 2004 so didn't bother.

Not sure if this is relevant, as I am old bat, but if you are on benefits, most of the providers will offer you more or less speed at same price as other people pay but I hasten to add - depends how clued up sales rep is - usually some call centre somewhere and sadly, can’t get super super fast. Worth looking into thou..

We've had Community Fibre for 3 years and it's the most reliable internet provider we've had. in the whole time we've had one outage which just needed a router reboot, if you use this link to order you get a £50 gift card (and so do I)!

I have Plusnet. I've been with them for years, and  I switched to fibre some time ago.

Threaten to leave them and I'm sure you'll be fine money wise. Get armed with price comparisons first 😀

I didn't try to get out of the new contract. There is the statutory cooling off period (as you say) and I was very fed up with being messed about. I just switched.

Plusnet are great if you re-contract with them.  I frequently manage to get a lower price than they give for new customers.  I need to do mine again as my contract is up next month.

According to the Community Fibre location checker, they don't appear to service the Forest Hill end of Lordship Lane.
