Hello, my name is Arhan Luthra and I am a maths tutor about to enter my third year of a Philosophy and Mathematics degree at the University of Edinburgh.

I am 21 years old and have spent the last 4 years tutoring maths to children of various ages in Dulwich and the surrounding area. In this time I have helped my students to develop their abilities and confidence across a wide range of mathematical topics.

I have a passion for maths and helping young people with maths is something I deeply enjoy. Past students and parents have commended me for my firm and effective approach to teaching which aims to identify and improve students weak points, whilst still maintaining a friendly and relaxed environment. I achieved A* and 9s in A level and GCSE maths respectively and know exactly what it takes to excel in exams. I aim however to not only prepare my students for exams, but to also develop their mathematical thinking to give them a deeper understanding of the content.

For the most part, since I am based in Edinburgh, my lessons take place online. This sometimes puts parents off, but I have found that lessons run just as smoothly as in person. The lessons take place over microsoft teams, and I will provide you with a webcam which allows me to follow your child's work.

I am comfortable with teaching any age, specialising in GCSE and A level. I attended the Charter School North Dulwich achieving the following GCSE and A level grades:

Education and experience:

A Levels:

4 A* in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and EPQ.

GCSE:

9 9's, 2 8's including 9s in Maths and Further Maths.

I offer a range of different tutoring styles tailored to individual needs. This could be simply going over school work and homework with a student and to ensure that they fully understand what they're learning at school, or more in depth past paper questions and exam technique so that the student is as ready as they can be for their exams. I am friendly and reliable. Whatever the students needs, I will cater my teaching to get the most out of my lessons 🙂

My rate is £35 an hour, however I don't want my teaching to be limited to only those who can afford it,  so will be offering cheaper lessons at £20 an hour for those who need it. I usually recommend 2 hour lessons weekly due to the large amounts of content in GCSE and A level maths.

I am also fully DBS checked and have experience working as a teaching assistant in schools around the area.

Please feel free to contact me for any questions or queries, my phone number is 07389062877. I am able to provide references if required.

I am aiming to build up a new roster of students for the new school year. Spaces will be limited so get in touch sooner rather than later!

Thanks a lot!

Arhan is a diligent, patient and reliable tutor with exceptional ability to calmly explain his subject to his students. He helped my daughter pass her GCSE maths, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him for any tutoring role.

 Thanks so much Arhan.

    • https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.
    • Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal. Could you please check sheds, garages, or anywhere she might have got stuck please? And if you could keep an eye out or share on any local groups/forums, we’d really appreciate it. Photo attached.   Thanks so much! My name is Jeff on 07956 910068.
    • Colin.    One for the old school.   Just saying.
    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
