Centrist politics - why have Tories gone further to the right?

With the Labour bashing that often happens in the Lounge I thought it good to get some balance.

You don't need to bash Labour as they are doing it themselves.  I expect you could say that the LibDems are taking the centre left.  Despite Polanksi's landslide I don't see him as uniting the country.

So the question is why under Badenoch, following on from Truss and Sunak, has the Tory party continued to lurch to the right?  The obvious answer is their membership, some see many of these as climate change deniers and xenophobic https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-68581917

Will going down the direction of Reform win them any votes?  

What ever happened to one nation conservatism??

It's Kemi Badenoch, at least get her name right.

Lurching even further to the right, maybe in your opinion.

Kemi is quietly getting on with the job of being in opposition, putting policies together and sharing those. 

British politics needs a radical change, however IMO, Reform is NOT the answer, only a distraction. Nigel is a flash in the pan having failed as UKIP he's come back as Reform who are so far right they are truly scary.

@jazzer we all know your politics.  This is questioning why the Tories have moved to the right.  Not about Labour, you have other threads for this.

So (a) do you support your party moving to the right?

(b) Why do you see Farage as a flash in the pan?  He is gathering lots of momentum and I don't see that changing and I certainly don't see former Tory voters switching back.

Others may have views too!

If Badenoch has announced a raft of policies, I'm all ears - what are they? I keep hearing now is not the time. So if Jazzer is happy with her policies what are they?

 

Also, given she is busy obfuscating about a whole bunch of fictions from her youth, as well as self-admitted criminal activity, I doubt she will be around much longer

 

Finally, Malumbu did get her name right - Badenoch. Why correct them? Or was that corrected in an edit?

Why don't you discuss the question rather than make a personal attack.  It's how I remember to spell her name.

Why is that shocking?

It's a fair enough way to remember how to spell her name. It wasn't an analogy. He wasn't comparing the two people concerned or saying they were alike.

And Enoch Powell was indeed infamous.

Enock Powell certainly was demonised after making a speech  in 1968. In many ways it was out of character.

His was a most interesting character and arguably one of the most highly intelligent person to enter parliament. Powell spoke German, French, Italian, Modern Greek, Hindi and Urdu: plus had a reading knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Welsh. Among classical languages, he knew Ancient Greek, Latin, Hebrew and Aramaic.

If, for a moment, one  could set aside any preconceived opinions then one would find his biography absolutely fascinating.

In deed, and whatever we think there was great popular support for his more extreme views - feels like history is repeating itself.  However, really interested in the title of the thread.
