Agree, horror stories aside, even for the average person, you are knackered (and I'm the bloke), you are emotional and you are over awed. In short, you are vulnerable, and you should be protected from fucking sales reps hassling you!

does this happen at Kings (where I guess a lot of forumite babies were born)? Because until I read about it on Mumsnet I didn't know anything about this, I got the Bounty pack from the midwife pre-birth (and chucked most of it in the bin), but never saw anyone on the ward and I was in there for 5 days (though admittedly not out in the main ward for most of that time).

Link isn't working for me but from what I've read on MN it sounds awful.

Yes it happens at King's. They came in to me on the day my son was born, handed over a bag of stuff and asked for my details. They did not introduce themselves so I just assumed they were hospital staff (I was kind of out of it!)....

Ive signed it and I urge everyone to.

After the birth of my 3rd daughter the Bounty lady did the rounds of my ward chatting to the other 3 mums about how heavy their big babies were and what a hard time theyd had in delivery. I was dreading her coming to me, Id kept my curtains tightly closed as my baby wasnt with me, she was in ICU fighting for her life, 3 months premature and only 1.5lbs. "Wheres baby?" "upstairs" I mananaged just that word.

Id had babies before, so I knew what was in the Bounty Pack, nappies and wipes that were the same length as my tiny little girl, insincere congratulations from baby care providing companies, and a Child allowance form that, sadly, I was never going to need.

All those days were difficult, but that day would have been a little bit easier without Bounty Pack

I've now managed to read the article and have signed. Absolutely dreadful - complete strangers taking photos of women recovering from childbirth??? Under the aegis of getting child benefit forms out there? And the government pay them for this? The whole thing beggars belief.

    • You'd need to get a proper quote (or three) for instance removing a cast iron bath is a very different job from removing an acrylic one. Again what pipe work will be being joined into - matching old imperial pipes with modern metric ones is different from like to like, as is dealing with a copper or an iron distribution system. The amount (area) of retiling required is an issue, as will be the state of the wall behind the tiles. It may of course all be very plain sailing, or not. Have a first look at plumber recommendations on the relevant pages on this site. If it's all easy then 3 days work may be sufficient. But it could be a week if there are snags.
    • Hi. Can anyone suggest a plumber for the job below? Replace bath tub with a shower enclosure, putting pipes to showerhead behind wall, re-titling damaged/removed tiles Also any idea of the costs involved for the labour as we will buy the items required?
    • Aria came round to fix my tub drain when I'd messed up the seal. Came within hours, fixed the tub, and ran a bath to make sure it was okay. Here's where the fun starts. While he was over, I asked him questions about the rest of the plumbing round the house. I had just moved into a Victorian home that was previously being rented. Unsurprisingly, we found another leak in the tub and a drip in the kitchen tap.  He came back the next day to put a better pipe in my bathtub and replace the kitchen sink. Painstakingly figured out how to replace the hard-to-access kitchen sink without cutting through the wood panel with the help of his builder friend, Mark. Answered all my questions and clearly knew his stuff. All this right before Christmas holidays!
