 What’s goin on?!

It's Christmas. People are sending presents they've left to almost the last minute,  and returning stuff they've bought online for presents and then  regretted.

That's on top of all the usual transactions.

The Post Office only has a max of four people on the counter, if you include the one nearest the street.

They can't suddenly magic up more space!

I imagine going when they open would be the quietest time, but what would I know?

I took an item for tracking to Los Angeles having paid postage and customs fee already online to Family Stores in Upland Road. They printed label and custom form from a QR code and all good, present has arrived, and there was no queue.

ETA Actually the main reason I posted this is to reassure those who are put off sending gifts to the US because of all the tariff business, like I was, that it is very straightforward

Post Office this time of year…I’ve seen shorter queues for Hyperia (new Thorpe Park ride 🤣)

Christmas may have been and gone by the time I get to front of queue but wish me luck. Day 3 off tryin!

What’s goin on?!

It's like that most of the time.  Like many, I can only use it at certain times due to work hours and the queue is always out of the door, that said it does tend to move pretty quickly.  Think I was in and out in 25 mins last time which I would call a success!

Don't mind Sue, think she woke up on the wrong side of the Post Office queue this morning!

Eh?

Yes of course it's often busy, but this must be its busiest time of the year.

Should I have put a smiley after my first paragraph? Would that have helped?

Do you disagree with what I said? I haven't even bought any cards or presents yet - I wasn't excluding myself 🙄

Do Family Stores on Upland Road take pre-printed Royal Mail parcel dropoffs?  IIRC last time I went there someone told me the Royal Mail website was wrong and needed to be updated (admittedly a long time ago) so I have since always gone to AM Supermarket on Overhill Road.  I once went to ED Post Office and never again!

Twice this month I’ve used the PO upstairs at the old WH Smith’s in Forest Hill. Very helpful and efficient with no long wait. But it’s sods law with post office queues, you just never know.

The queue there today and yesterday afternoon stretched half way down the stairs. Much patience required!

I live just around the corner & walk past every day, & I'm still not entirely sure what it's meant to be. For that reason, I'm not surprised if it often gets overlooked by passersby. Prior to all of this, it was Oriental Star - a wonderful Chinese takeout run by lovely people, & we were genuinely sad to see it go. It took a long time to find anything in this area that came close, & honestly, I still don't think we quite have.
