Hi, my little boy will be 1 soon. I have a few ideas for presents but I'm not a believer in going crazy at this stage as his favourite toys tend to be socks and leaflets! I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of a good toy to buy at this age, that they really grow to love and use as they develop?

A sit-on toy (if you don't already have some)! A Thomas is still played with daily here a year and a half later, present from grandparents. Also got Little Tikes sit in cars, just used indoors so far and still much loved. Agree though I wouldn't go crazy, maybe a small token for now!

This tunnel was very popular (and for at least a year after). It's great cos it's very impressive to small people but folds away totally flat.

Also if you don't have it this pop up toy was a firm favourite at that age and for months.

Both take up a bit of space, but he loves them + they actually look really nice so I don't mind having them out in the sitting room all the time. Small presents for Christmas though I think!

    • Thanks penguin  always wondered about that place and that’s way more info than I ever thought I would get  (used to live above a gun nut on friern road - he would tell me nothing)
    • There was a Saturday afternoon crowd of enthusiasts, and at other times the owner might have been off acquiring stock. He also repaired air guns, which he also sold. He stocked edged weapons, uniforms, including antique uniforms, air guns and ammo and starting pistols and shot. Some medals and other militaria. Quite a lot of ex service chit chat on a Saturday. I had an amateur interest, didn't deal a lot, in English pattern swords and other mainly 19th century militaria. And made some good purchases there. I'm afraid WWII and later events was the major focus of most of the regulars.
    • Did anyone actually venture in to that place? I recall it always being closed/very uninviting!
