Windows - planning permission

Hello

I've recently placed an order to have new double glazed timber sash windows installed on my property. These will replace the old, draughty aluminium windows currently in the house. I happened to be speaking to a planning person at Southwark Council and made a passing comment about this. He has just told me I need planning permission for this! It will take 8 weeks! This is after the date my new windows are meant to be installed.

I'm also told I need to include front elevation drawings with my application. Does anyone know a local architect that would be able to do these kind of drawings really quickly and not charge over the odds?

I'd really appreciate any feedback as now I'm worried I will lose my deposit!

Before looking for or commissioning an architect - contact your window fitters. Are they FENSA registered?

Alot of windows and doors can be replaced under building regs' (see the link).

The whole thing is utterly confusing and the more I look into it the more it looks like planning is not required but then why did the planning person say it was! Totally not sure what to do now!

Building Regs doesn't overide Planning Permission, they are separate issues.

Yes, a FENSA company can do the Building Regs side of things, but planning may still be required regardless i.e Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings.

It's possible that Planning Permission may be required if you live in a conservation area, otherwise I would think it highly unlikely. Why not ring your Window Supplier and see if they have any advice ?

Hi Landy10,if your new windows are the same style as the original design then permission is not required.The

window fitter ,if FENSA reg.can certify correct fitting which Building Control may ask for ,if you wish to tell them
