Loz, thanks very much, that did the job perfectly. Jeremy, I was looking to create pdfs from CAD drawings, but a useful tip, thanks. I found a simple photo editor in Windows Photo Gallery in lieu of Photoshop.

Does anyone have a spare licensed version of one or both of the above, compatible with Windows Vista? I need to create pdfs rather than just read them. Or does anyone know of a trusted site where they can be downloaded. Adobe don't support Vista anymore. Thanks

Building Regs doesn't overide Planning Permission, they are separate issues. Thanks DF, when I insert the HP CD a window opens (see attached screenshot pic). I can't get into specific directories. I previously tried the 'Uninstall' option, but it didn't remove all the HP related software. Do you think I should try again and then follow your instructions from ''Check Add/Remove programs inside Control Panel for additional HP programs that weren't removed and remove them.'' ?

I clicked on 'Exit' and then right-clicked on the CD drive in My Computer, but it came up with a 'Please insert disc' message, even though the disk is in there. Hello, I have a HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One Printer. I use it via a wireless connection to a Sony Vaio laptop, which runs on Windows Vista. Last week I tried to open the 'HP Digital Imaging Monitor' software, which enables a document to be scanned via the printer, but received the following error message - ''Parsing error in file C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqscloc\1033.xml'' I've checked the above file directory and '1033.xml' doesn't exist in the folder 'hpqscloc', instead there is a file called 'hpqscloc.dll'. The printer is fine when used independently, e.g. photocopying, it's just when I try to print or scan from my laptop. There's no problem with the wifi connection either. I've Googled the error message, and the general consensus is to uninstall and reinstall the HP software. I tried this, but for some reason it won't remove all the HP software, which I have to do before trying to install new HP software. I've also tried System Restore to a restore point before the problem occurred, but that hasn't worked either. One of the bits of advice on the Google search was to perform a 'forced uninstall' to remove all the original HP software. But having never done this before, I thought I would ask on here first to see if anyone had, and if so could they recommend a reliable 'forced uninstall' software I can download. I'm also open to any other suggestions to solve the problem. Thanks in advance.

If you know the name of the road(s) where there are half-houses, you can do a search on Southwark Planning Applications (these include Permitted Development schemes) - http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/ Just type in the road name in the right hand search box, no need to put house number or postcode. This should produce a list of planning applications relating to that street. You then just have to scroll through the applications until you find one that is doing an extension/loft conversion etc. Once found, click on the application number, and then click on 'documents', this usually brings up a list of drawings of existing/proposed plans. It will also tell you which schemes have been approved/rejected.

What you describe is illegal and fraudalent. Architects are professionally regulated, and as such, any architect found guilty of this sort of behaviour will be struck-off the architect's register. I suggest if you have evidence of this sort of behaviour that you seek redress with the Architect's Registration Board, who have a complaints procedure set in place. As for your comment ''save you thousands'', I believe that is debatable. For instance, it could be argued that a poorly designed and constructed extension/conversion will detract from the overall value of a house, whereas a well designed and executed extension/conversion will add value.

Gooner76: Whether I am an architct or not is irrelevent. I posted what I believed was a helpful post to any forumite as to how they can check whether a person is a registered architect or not, as there seemed to be some ambiguity in previous posts whether D2/Nick Stockley is or isn't an architect.

'Architect' is a protected title, and as such all individuals using the term 'architect' have to be registered with the Architect's Registration Board. A simple check as to whether someone is a registered architect can be made by visiting the ARB website and carrying out a search. The ARB will actively prosecute anyone who uses the term 'architect' and isn't registered.
