motorbird83
I've got a typical small mid terreaced house in ED with a courtyard garden less than 6x6m. I want some flags and a bit of turf and some planters built out of sleepers. No levelling work.Just got a quote for 10k and nearly fainted. Are these the prices people are paying in ED for landscaping? I feel like the world's gone mad. Peckhampam
search for my recent thread-use the name nauris in search. I think he will give you a reasonable quote and his work is great Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37556-ed-garden-costs-madness/#findComment-688716 Share on other sites
DaveR
?10k sounds way over the top, unless you're planning to pave it with marble. We used a guy called Nigel, who wasn't the cheapest, but did a great job. I don't have his number but he was referred to us by Andy, who posts on here as Spoiltdog:http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/profile.php?30,8042 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37556-ed-garden-costs-madness/#findComment-688719 Share on other sites
Jeremy
Sometimes if tradesmen don't really fancy the job, or have too much work on, they'll quote you double... just in case the client was born yesterday. Mrs TP
They are probably used to doing bigger jobs and mean they won't get out of bed for less than ?10K - good luck to them if they can get the work and they probably can! So yes an over-quote as they don't want to spend the time on a smaller job :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37556-ed-garden-costs-madness/#findComment-688729 Share on other sites
bonaome
Try Victor the handyman http://www.007handyman.co.uk/3.html - we used him for similar work following many recommendations for him on EDF and were really pleased with the work and the price. I can't remember how much it was exactly but I do remember that our starting budget was a small fraction of what you've been quoted elsewhere and Victor was well within budget. Pickle
We've had both our front and back gardens completely redesigned for a lot less than that! Try Alec Nikolic, he's local and excellent. lane lover
I second bonaome. Victor is excellent and charges a good price. He did my garden at a small fraction of the above cost.He gets busy, so he may not be free for a while: but worth the wait. motorbird83
Thanks KK :)They actually do want the work. When I said thanks but no thanks they sent through an unsolicited revised quote with cheaper flags and they made multiple visits to the house. Shockingly, I think this is just how much they charge! Thanks for the other recommendations everyone :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37556-ed-garden-costs-madness/#findComment-688744 Share on other sites
Herne Hill Guest
Has the turf got irrigation included in the quote? It's is very costly. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37556-ed-garden-costs-madness/#findComment-688796 Share on other sites

Gardeners world
Hi. Firstly, thank you Dave for the recommendation. I normally suggest to my customers to get 3 quotes for the work, so you get a balanced view of the cost, plus you get to pick our brains for ideas. I would always say, only use recommended gardeners from the forum. At least you know you are getting someone who knows how to do a good job & will not overcharge you. I would be happy to come round & give you a quote & hopefully some ideas to keep the cost down & offer a good job, as we have been doing this for 12 years & offer a guarantee on all our work.Nigel07961888253 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37556-ed-garden-costs-madness/#findComment-689147 Share on other sites
