Having grown up around Dulwich, I am moving back after several years overseas. Have to look at property over websites and cannot view them in advance. Anyone have any comments on Highwood Close flats-(nb. location, noise, security etc) off Lordship Lane. Anyone bought or rented there? Obviously newish with mod cons etc and convenient for transport.

Are they where the old TA Depot was?

Thanks for any comments

Hi Telegramsam

I own an apt in Highwood and have spent the last month or so living there. Great place to live. 10mins walk to Forest Hill station, and all the buses go past from Sydenham, Brixton, ED and Dulwich, peckham etc.

Quiet, friendly(ish) neigbours (people tend to keep to themselves). The apts are all in good condition with all the mod cons as you say. Not sure about security, but you have be careful everywhere.

I would recommend living there.

    • You raise a good point here regarding heat/climate. The recent dry spell has caused the ground to dry up and move. Just as this movement causes cracks in the walls of people’s homes, it also causes water pipes underground to fracture, hence the recent uptick in reported leaks and the heightened workload for TW

    • Does it deal at all with the question of the anticipated per capita future costs of necessary repairs to or upgrading of the ?still largely old underground piping across their area, and how that compares with future risks existing in other areas?  I wonder too whether the latest apparent concentrated spate of leaks is attributable at all to the heat. TW say that they have not made any dividend payments to external shareholders (among them a Candian teachers pension fund) since 2017.    There have been like payments, though, to their holding companies (?Kemble, and Thames ?something), reportedly I think to service debts to them. Thames Water annual company reports are available online.  Ofwat have also published about leakage.
