Cheryl_M
Apologies if this thread is in the wrong place but thought it would be good to hear thoughts from everyone!I'm flat hunting for myself and my 2 year old daughter and to say our search has been disappointing is an understatement. I've lived in East Dulwich for nearly 3 years but it's become too expensive for me. The problem I'm having with estate agents and private landlords is that I only work 2 days per week so my income is made up of 50% salary and 50% housing benefit and working tax credit. This is classed as 'DSS' and I'm sure most of you have seen this term on the majority of adverts. I chose to work part-time to be with my daughter for the first couple of years of her life but will most definitely be going into full- time employment next year. Unfortunately my relationship with my daughter's father broke down which is why I feel in a rut. I work as a Desk Top Publisher for a management consultants so I hate to be put into the same category as someone who sits on their backside claiming benefits! I have great references from both my current landlord and my employer so I'm completely genuine. I feel so deflated and helpless right now so would appreciate any helpful comments or advice. Loz
Together with your budget. It'll help those who may respond if they know if they are in your ballpark. pandrns
we are renting our flat privately through EDF (we had to move from a 1-bed after just 6 months due to pregnancy) and we really were dreading paying ?100's in fees after just half a year - renting privately has benefitted both the landlords and ourselves and without any of the admin fees etc. Still had a contract drawn up and put our deposit into a protection scheme to protect both parties - but the rental was based on meeting the landlords and a mutal liking and trust. I would def post on the propery section and see what happens!
