Parent and Baby Group at The Crooked Well in SE5.

10.30-12.00

Fantastic pub, really welcoming to new parents.

They set aside the pub for us to use, play mats, toys for little ones, food for adults and a really great space to be in on a cold wet October day!

Just turn up, bring a friend or come along on your own.

So nice to meet everyone this morning at the Crooked Well.

It would be great to see you again soon. It was the first time for almost everyone, so if you want to join us just come along next Tuesday 10.30-12.00

It's easy to park in the Morrisons car park and just walk round the corner, suitable for mums-to-be and young babies.

See you soon

    • I miss the good old days where guides and scouts saluted the flag at the start of a meeting, old soldiers proudly ran a flag up every morning and it was seen as a symbol of pride, not division  What has happened to the world?
    • There have been recent changes to the law regarding immigration, for skilled workers, social care workers, dependents, English language requirements and further changes are underway. If these changes were not necessary to address problems, they wouldn't need to be done. As it is, protest does raise awareness of the issues - public interest in various matters is measured, and prioritised accordingly. Previously, it was public concern about energy prices, and cost of living - and at that time, immigration and the claims process were not on the 'list'. They are now.
    • I hadn't read that article. I think I read it in another article or post quoting figures which were possibly wrong. Many of the people protesting their "unhappiness" appear to be racist. They don't appear to protest about white immigrants from, say, Australia. Nor do they come out waving flags to protest about, say, domestic violence by white men, unless you have evidence to the contrary?
    • This thread hasn't been updated for a while. For the Sept 2025 intake (i.e. the kids starting this week), the Charter East Dulwich school website says the 'longest distance' offered was 1700m (as of 1st May 2025 - I guess it might have increased a bit more after 1st May 2025). Below is a map of 1700m - but parents should still apply even if outside this circle (the distance has been increasing each year, as local demographics change etc) For those considering applying for Sept 2026, this recent Ofsted report is very encouraging - https://files.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50249504 - it basically says the school would have been graded as 'Outstanding', but it was not a 'graded inspection' so they are not officially allowed to say that. Obviously Ofsted has its limitations (!), but the text in this report is very complimentary.  And the recent GCSE and A level results are the best yet:  https://www.chartereastdulwich.org.uk/post/year-11-students-at-the-charter-school-east-dulwich-achieve-strongest-gcse-results-yet  https://www.chartereastdulwich.org.uk/post/sixth-form-students-at-charter-east-celebrate-best-ever-results An unapologetically pro-Charter East Dulwich post 🙂
