  1. Little Prints Clothing - available on Etsy, at the Telegraph Hill Shop at the top of the park, or at Honeybourne's in Brockley. It's awesome kids clothing and accessories made using block print African fabrics by a local mum - in the interests of transparency she's my sister-in-law;-) Recently featured on Dress like a Mum blog and Instagram AND MotherPukka blog. :-DDD
  2. The Norwood School in West Norwood. Train from ED to West Norwood then about a 10 minute walk. I never understand why it doesn't crop up more often (or ever) in these threads as it's a good (with outstanding) school, has exam results comparable to (and sometimes better than) many of the other schools that appear on the EDF, and has some of the best value added scores in the country? what's not to like?? well it's not very middle class (not my concern but might be for others although this is changing rapidly) and had a terrible reputation 8-10 years ago when it was an all girls school. It's a hidden gem, trust me ;-)
  3. I know - I can't believe I like it either but we don't have a very big kitchen so we have saved work surface that would have been taken up with a kettle and for some reason it's quite nice having instant hot water without waiting 3 minutes for a kettle to boil! Also the reservoir only tops up with as much water as you have used and then keeps it hot unlike a kettle where the tendency is to boil more water than you need then let it go cool then repeat (well that's what I always did anyway). Still does seem an odd thing to like so much but I can't help it...!
  4. We have an Insinkerator and love it. It doesn't spit water like the Quooker and (I think) has a bigger reservoir. The only minus with ours is that the water is slightly cooler than freshly boiled water from a kettle so cups of tea go cold faster - not really a huge problem though!
  5. Very excited about this new addition but haven't managed to go yet, mainly as I generally have one or two small people with me. At the risk of attracting the attention of the "can't we have one child free pub blah blah" brigade (a point that I am not unsympathetic to but I'm now on the other side of that fence), is it buggy/ child friendly? Would be nice to have somewhere on my door step that I can take said small people to for lunch occasionally when the daily grind of wiping my own floor becomes too much? Basically, do they have highchairs/ baby changing/ room to park a buggy/ a menu that includes cheese on toast???!
  6. Hi Sarah, Lots of the people on this thread are still in contact. We have a whatsapp group that we now use to arrange meet ups as well as being a forum to ask opinions/ advice/ have a moan! If you PM me your mobile number I can ask Anya (who is the group admin) toadd you to the group if you would like although you will need to have Whats app on your phone. I'm assuming Anya has not already been in touch - ignore this if she has!
  7. Thanks for this summary. Sounds like a positive meeting given the less than positive news. I'm on holiday until next Friday but as soon as I'm back I'm keen to get involved with the campaign. Thanks again.
  8. We also live on Marmora Rd and will be looking at primary admission for Sept 2017 as we have no plans to move house before then. I had thought that between Harris ED opening, the Belham (?) site of DVIS (is it DVIS?I could easily be wrong), the Ivydale expansion (and is there another expansion/ site shift/ free school I have forgotten?) that perhaps catchment areas might shift around a bit as children who would previously have gone to other schools will now go to them? Or am I being hopelessly naive? It's so frustrating that LA are no longer allowed to actually plan for the number of places needed in useful locations.
  9. As a family who doesn't have much "family time" during the week we are always on the look out for weekend activities for our 2.5 year old daughter. I have always thought that providers were missing a trick by not offering classes on weekends for working mums and dads but figured that there was a reason it did not exist i.e there is not the demand. so in short we would love to see something set-up that our daughter would enjoy. My only reservation for what you are suggesting is that to sign-up for a half-term and commit to attending every weekend is a big commitment that might put us off as like most people we are not free every Sunday afternoon and we'd prefer a drop-in arrangement - not the ideal scenario for a provider though, I realise.
  10. My sister bought me some Aden and Anais muslins which I coveted first time around but could not justify the cost of for myself.
  11. Hi! Congratulations Anja and Rachel on your new arrivals! I'm still waiting - 11 days over and counting? COmpletely fed-up tbh and today my pelvis has completely given up the ghost and refuses to clunk back into place. It's been slipping around for weeks but I think it's completely knackered now. I'll let you off stealing my due date, Rachel ;-) Weirdly though, Vanessa is also my midwife - we joked that the baby was waiting for her to come back from holiday and she has been on leave again for the last 4 days and still no baby. She is back tomorrow and coming to see me to give me a FIFTH sweep - I am wondering what the record is - so maybe she will be able to catch this baby after all! I certainly hope something happens soon! Hope to catch up properly soon. Nicola x
  12. Hi all, Fourth sweep done this morning and Braxton Hicks aplenty but no baby as yet so we should make it to The Plough this pm around 3.30/3.45 unless something dramatic happens! See you there! Nicola.
  13. Haha - thanks LHF - me too! Unfortunately there are no signs of the little bugger just yet so fourth sweep here we come? You never know, though, tonight might be the night although after several false starts this week I've learned not to get my hopes up. My daughter was 12 days overdue so you'd think I would know better but for some reason I thought it would be different this time... Re. tomorrow, The Herne pub next to Peckham Rye Park has a music class called FrogPrince Music on at 3.30pm tomorrow. It's not LL obviously so not sure how people are fixed for travel but only a 10 minute walk away. I have not been yet but have heard good things from other mums and thought it could be an opportunity to occupy the toddlers for a bit which might keep them sweet for a bit longer afterwards while we have a coffee? We can but live in hope? If the weather is dry we can always huddle outside while they potter around as the garden there is pretty escape-proof too. Obviously if you are a first-timer or your toddler is elsewhere this might well be your idea of hell so I'm open to other suggestions!
  14. Hi all, I *might* be able to do coffee on Monday pm. I'm now 41+1 :-( so really hoping baby arrives before Monday when I'll have a FOURTH sweep :-(( and definitely before next Wed when I'll be induced :-((( Feeling pretty fed-up tbh and the tyrannical toddler is giving me the runaround although not literally as I can't run - more of a desperate stagger. Her current obsession with Frozen is the only thing keeping me sane as I can at least get 20 mins of peace while she watches the 1st 20 mins again and again and again and again? oh dear? As long as things remain as they are I can make 3.30 onwards on Monday and I'm pretty flexible on location too although it needs to be somewhere suitable for said tyrannical toddler. Anya - thanks for setting up the whatsapp group and good luck for Monday. Hopefully see everyone soon with baby in tow.
  15. Does anybody know what time the Christingle at St Johns tomorrow? Thanks!
  16. Hi! Oh yes, Rachel, I'm feeling it too! Finish work on Thursday this week - can't come soon enough. I didn't manage to make to yoga last Saturday - Ada had a terrible week of sleep and I was absolutely exhausted. Annoyingly I'm also not going to make it to yoga for the next 2 weeks either as I'm away from Sat til Sat at my parents' up north - I'm literally crossing my legs that young'un is not born up there tho! Always a risk! I'm back in ED from 15th December tho and on mat leave so perhaps we could arrange a weekday get together for those of us on mat leave by then? Hopefully see you all soon! Nicola.
  17. I know this topic has been done to death but having eagerly read everything I spot on here about toddler sleep none of it has spoken to the various issues we are having so here I am hoping someone can sympathise/ offer insight/ reassurance! I am 36 weeks pregnant and my toddler is 25months old. She was a wonderful sleeper until she turned 1ish and then? well, they say karma's a B***h... For the last 10 months we have struggled through various incarnations of sleep issues, sometimes for weeks at a time - waking in the night with separation anxiety; waking in the night wanting to play; waking in the night hungry (she took a long time to be interested in eating "full" meals); refusing to go to sleep at the start of the night; waking in the night thanks to teething/ cold/ cough etc. All of these have been attributable to something i.e illness; teething; changes in day-time sleep needs; one bout of sleepless nights clearly coincided with her starting to speak in sentences; occasional night-terrors; bad dreams (I think) and she has either settled back to more reasonable sleep patterns in her own time or has been encouraged to do so with short bouts of controlled crying. BUT this week has been a whole new ball game as she has been waking up at different times and staying awake for at least an hour at a time apparently unable to settle back to sleep (we have a video monitor so I have been known to watch her for 15 minutes apparently getting sleepier and sleepier and then suddenly springing awake again and calling for us). This was topped by last night when she was awake for nearly 4 hours squealing, playing, singing, reciting nursery rhymes, doing "flips" in her sleeping bag etc etc. Basically this was not the middle of the night for her and she was going to play? After nearly 4 hours she decided her pyjamas were the problem (I have no idea if they were the problem all along) and once they were changed she went to sleep? I am exhausted and terrified at the prospect of this behaviour continuing for the foreseeable future when I have a newborn to look after as well. I simply can't figure out what is going on so I was wondering whether anyone else has a similar story or any advice. Also, would enlisting a sleep consultant be helpful given that her sleep issues are so unpredictable and varied? Anyway, thank you for your stamina if you have reached the end of this LONG post. ANy thoughts will be gratefully received;-)
  18. Hi! I can't make tomorrow morning unfortunately as I go to DiddiDance with the toddler on Fri am. I will be going to yoga on Sat tho so perhaps I'll see some of you there. Hope everyone is keeping well. Nicola.
  19. Hi, I'll be at Yogarise on Saturday morning too - loved it last week, can't believe I've only just discovered it! A drink afterwards sounds good to me too - just have to convince toddler's dad to take her to baby booters! See you Saturday!
  20. All of the above are excellent ideas but one thing that hasn't been mentioned is considering whether you have a particularly fast let-down. Looking back, I think I did. My daughter never coughed/ spluttered when bf but there was an audible fast gulping noise for the first few weeks whenever she was feeding so I imagine the milk must have been gushing (relatively) out of me (this also caused terrible problems with wind and colic grrrr)! As a result my daughter would take a few sucks at a bottle then get incredibly angry at the bottle as she would not get the milk fast enough. As total novices it took us a few screamy weeks to figure it out but once we upped the teat number well past the recommended one for her age (I think she was on no3 at 6 weeks old) she was much happier taking her evening feed from a bottle.
  21. That sounds good to me. Not sure yet but I might be able to leave the tyrant toddler with my mum and dad for the morning :-)
  22. I couldn't make the last meet-up but I'd still love to meet some other mums. I can do the 11th Oct (might even be toddler-free as my parents are visiting that weekend! oooh what a treat ;-) Can't make the 18th though so ditto what Joanna 77 said - if the 18th works better for everyone else I'll come to the next one :-)
  23. Hi. I can;t make the 6th but would love to meet up the next time. I'm also at home on Tuesdays and Friday if anyone else is although that would definitely limit my ability to finish a sentence as I'd have to bring my daughter along! Thanks ANyaJoeli for the yoga recommendation - I'm going to check it out.
  24. Hi everyone. Another second timer here - due end of Dec (26th eek!). First will be 27months by then. Would be lovely to meet up with some more mums closer to "the time" especially as I have no plans to do antenatal classes this time around. As a side issue, does anyone have a pregnancy yoga class that they would recommend that runs on Sat or Sun mornings? I did a brilliant class with Sue Stockwell last time who still teaches at Brockwell Lido but i'm finding it practically impossible to make the times that her classes are on.
  25. Fernando came back again today to finish the job he started earlier this month and once again was polite, professional and extremely hard working. We'll definitely be calling him in the future whenever we need some more work doing.
