nunheadbelle
Just a little character. Actually, it wasn't that long ago that Lordship Lane was more or less like this stretch, until it went upmarket. The shops in Grove Vale have been there for many years. I remember I used to frequent Hong Hong, the Chinese takeway on a weekly basis and that was about 25 years ago.JamieT Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Lordship Lane is populated by fashionable> restaurants and bars yet the road from the EDT to> the station remains a mecca of dirty kebab shops> and dodgy looking bookies. slummymum
Speaking for the slummier population of ED (maybe just me and my family) it's nice to have a less tarted up part of town. Lovely though L'ship lane it's getting so that we can't enter some of the shops without taking out a second mortgage. And handcuffing the kids to the buggy...And what happened to the Lane Cafe? The refurb is fab but I feel sad that its owners felt the need to posh it up... Moos
I too like that part of ED, especially the slightly unusual one-assumes-they-rely-on-non-local-business-too type shops (like the uniform shop). The southern end of LL, with the big hardware store, and lots of little caffs, is also far from chichi. It's really only the roundabout down to Moxon's or thereabouts which is posh.
