Yes, I started a thread in here (which is now in the lost and found section) about a recorded delivery item that's gone missing on Oakhurst (they put the usual card through the door, but when I read it, it said they'd left the item for collection - at the address they were supposed to deliver it to!). That was Wednesday last week. I went to the office on Silvester Road at 9am on Friday, they couldn't account for it and said they'd call when they'd checked with the postman. They didn't, so I went back and queued for ages on Saturday morning to be told the postman wouldn't be back till today... Today I received a call saying he's on a rest day and won't be back in till tomorrow (but at least they did let me know they can't do anything today). I gave them the recorded delivery number, and they've got an illegible signature on their little device, but no record of the number it was actually delivered to. So I am relying on the postman remembering where s/he delivered something almost a week ago... It's a birthday present from my elderly father, who is rather upset that I haven't got it yet.

I suspect that there are a few temporary postmen/women at the moment, to cover the Christmas post.

I did have a small issue with a package not being delivered last week and if the case that there are indeed temporary postmen/women working to cover than I'd admit my location has caused a little confusion for delivery services in the past. This has been put down to the fact that I'm 137-138 Bredinghurst Overhill Road and I believe there's another door with 137 on this road also (?). Nevertheless my package was taken to the post office on Forest hill road and have to say no issues with the service there.

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
