You need to stay safe by being aware of your surroundings...

Not being over dramatic. There is real danger.

Foxy

What a load of scaremongering rubbish. I would advise against running with your headphones with music on full blast to provide some awareness of your surroundings and obstacles you may encounter, but not wearing them in case you get attacked - come off it. Last time I checked, we dont live in a high crime area with joggers being targetted by criminals hiding in the shadows of SE22.... Ridiculous.

The fear of crime....

That is where you are most at danger... Display your Phone in public attracts thieves.

wearing headphones will also bring attention to yourself that you have some valuable kit on you worth stealing.

and you will not hear someone creeping up on you.

People have been killed wearing headphones whilst running/cycling

It is just common sense... Not scaremongering rubbish.

DulwichFox

Worst sort of scaremongering, get a grip foxy!!

It took me years before I dare set foot on a farm lest I drowned in a slurry pit whilst being crushed by hay stacks, ploughed up by a tractor and electrocuted whilst getting my frisby (that may have been another one).

There's one thing promoting sensible caution and another to tell people THEY'll DIE IF THEY WEAR osbourne stewart HEADPHONES!!!!!!

Ok I was Scaremongering... No need to be concerned whilst out jogging by your self on a dark evening..

In that case may I suggest:-

The Sennheiser Orpheus may be a great pair of headphones for audiophiles, but what about those who prefer style over sound quality? Well, that?s what the world?s most expensive earbuds are for.

Created by Thomas Heyerdahl of Heyerdahl Jewellery, the same person behind the iDiamond iPod, these blinged out buds aren?t just a one-off for charity?they were carefully constructed in a series of 1,000. Each pair of iDiamond ear earphones is made of 18 karat gold set with 204 diamonds (1.65 carats total). Each pair is numbered, so you know that your pair is entirely unique.

Of course, getting one now may be a hassle. They were distributed to high end jewelry stores in March of 2008 and, at the time, sold for $6,400. Considering their limited availability, purchasing a pair now might require a considerably larger investment.

You should also consider a decent watch:-

Swiss watchmakers such as Patek Philippe , Vacheron Constantin , Girard-Perregaux and the like. Oh, they?re going to cost you?$200,000 per easily, and much, much more if you really want to splurge.

Do roll up your sleeves though so it is on full view..

You should have no trouble in East Dulwich.. There is no crime...

DF.

I wouldn't dream of wearing earphones on a run. Nothing to do with the fear of crime but rather the fear of ending up on a bonnet - and more especially because I love the experience of being outside and actually hearing everything around me (wildlife etc.).

And anyway, there's enough hurting as I go round so the idea of sore ears afterwards isn't what I need too.

    • I'm glad you are making good use of your car, but bemused how you are saving on petrol by only half filling every 3-4 weeks? Unless this prevents you using the car as often as you would like, surely you would use just the same amount of petrol, and spend the same amount of money, if you filled it up completely every 6 - 8 weeks? Have I missed something here?

    • Would Leon install a new double oven? Our eye level double oven was installed when we had our kitchen installed around 20 years ago and will need to be replaced with similar. I think we had 2 people to install it then - so does Leon work alone?
    • My car was registered in 2004. Automatic, ULEZ compatible.  Used to use it daily for work until 2016 when retired. Still used 3-5 days weekly after that as was doing voluntary work. My mobility has gradually declined and  it is painful to walk.. Family live in Kent, Essex and Sussex - so need car to visit them. My car battery is 2 years old - when had to call out RAC to assist at home as it was dead, they found it was the original battery installed in 2004!! My car is essential - shopping each week, being able to go to garden centres, or DIY stores, taking the cat to the vet and  other social activities. I now only half fill with petrol every 3- 4 weeks, so save that way. I am careful  with my finances and would be lost without the car. It is regularly maintained (Turners).
