You can try the Rosendale in West Dulwich, less crowded than the Dog (C & G). One of the best places us the Barbur in Honour Oak, it will cost an arm and a leg and I expect the marquee is still up. Sparsh in Forest Hill is wonderful but small with no outside but worth it when weather gets cooler.

Kartuli on LL us in my list of places to try. East Dulwich Tavern is good value

My partner, niece and I had an absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch at Franklins the weekend before last.

https://www.franklinsrestaurant.com/

She had roast beef and we had a cauliflower dish that sounds a bit boring but had me practically licking the plate it was so delicious.

Hers was so much she couldn't finish it (and she is a hearty eater).

We also had an absolutely excellent dessert between the three of us.

I know this sounds a bit over the top, but I really can't recommend it highly enough.

It wasn't cheap (housewarming celebration for my niece who has just moved to a house share in London) but it was honestly worth every penny.

We had a nice bottle of wine as well, and the service was excellent.

We sat in the front bar, which has a nice atmosphere, but there is a proper restaurant area at the back, plus tables on the pavement outside.

ETA: The worst Sunday lunch I have ever had in my life was at the Crown and Greyhound.

In fact it was one of the worst meals I have ever had in my life🙄

Now I am intrigued - did Paul find somewhere good? Is he still in the area - does he have any recommendations 16 years on!!! ;-)

P.S. A nice walk up Greendale followed by Sunday lunch at the Crooked Well - in case anyone cared for my today recommendation! ;-)

And the throwback one would have been the Bishop when Scott owned it!

According to the above timings, they suggest I (inadvertently) did, as the gap from 2006 to now is broken (apparently) by me.

But I'm sure I saw it appear as a new thread which I was responding to. There's no way I'd go back to 2006 (before I even moved here).

Admin - perhaps something wrong with site which is causing things like this to reappear and seem new?

Curiously the second worst meal I've ever had in my life was at Franklins - bones in the raw rabbit terrine, frozen steak reheated and instant coffee (worst ever was at Chez Bruce!).....

I think by slating both Franklins and Chez Bruce in a single sentence you have demonstrated that your view on restaurants should be treated with real caution. Unless, of course this was a (well-disguised) comedy message. In any event I am sure Tim, Rod and the team will be delighted to be ranked over Chez Bruce!

All restaurants have off days - I've had excellent and terrible meals at Le Gavroche, last week I was served raw pork at a world famous restaurant in Provence.

To go back on topic, my favourite Sunday lunch is Manuel's at Gipsy Hill

    • Hello everyone, We have lost our wonderful moggie, Cookie.  She's been missing for over a week now and was lost around the back of our house on rail track land around Croxted Road/Turney Road junction. Please do keep an eye out for her and if you see her please let us know urgently as she isn't familiar with the area at all, we are very worried.  She has a microchip (with my brother's contact details) She's black with ginger/brown markings, very distinctive. If you have had sightings of her or seen her at anytime please let do let me know, Henna 07941 047094 If you could post on your local/street groups too, I'd be very grateful. Thank you!
