milk deliveries

has anyone else had problems with dairy crest deliveries? we have had them for years, but recently there have been difficulties, with milk and cream cartons being damaged. yesterday we got no milk at all and apparently double cream was not available. (all the local shops of all sizes had plenty.) you cannot, of course, phone the local depot. everything goes through a call centre in the phillipines (honestly). I know we could easily go to shop every day, but we just like having a milkman.

Dairy Crest is awful . I have issues with them too but sadly they have no competitors in the area to make them buck up .

I am going over to Riverford , they are a organic fruit , Vegs and meat box supplier but they also deliver organic milk , cream , butter , bread and lots of other things .

I have had my milk delivered at all different times , the wrong milk delivered , one time no milk was delivered but I was still charged . I have ordered extras from the website and on the day they don't deliver it as presumably its out of stock but it's annoying as I will forgo buying said items when out and about as I expect them to be delivered.

I think if they had a competitor they would take more care but as it is , I am not impressed .

We use Dairy Crest too, and have rarely had any problems for the 30 years that we have lived in the area. We have only had two milkmen in all that time (the present milkman has been delivering our milk for nearly 20 years). I would say the only time that we have experienced any difficulties is when our regular milkman is away, and someone else covers his round, but even then things rarely go wrong.

We have never used the "Milk&More" website, but continue to pay our milkman in cash every two weeks, and if we need to change our order we just leave a note out or tell him.

Are the ones who are having no problems , can I ask do you stick to the same orders all the time ? That is, the same milk and same amount ? As I tend to vary my order and due to guests and lack of time I usually add on extras such as cheese , bread etc but a lot of times it must be out of stock as it doesn't get delivered , just frustrating but I suppose it's not ocado who let you know when something is out of stock .

It doesn't help that there are no means to email them either .

I've had no problem with them, used them for 10 years via Daves Dairy. I leave a note for the milkman or leave a phone message with Pam . I drop a cheque off through Pam's letterbox on my way to the shops or leave it in an envelope in a milk bottle.

I get mine delivered three times a week, and only occasionally illness or very severe weather has stopped a delivery.

In the past, on a couple of occasions I have had my milk nicked though, and so make sure they leave deliveries inside the front garden wall rather than on doorstep.

EastDulwichSE22 - We do have a regular order of milk, bread, and other items, but we change it / add to it quite frequently simply by leaving a note out for the milkman.

Scotlander - you could certainly talk to a milkman if you see one in the street. Alternatively you could call the Dairy Crest depot in Gap Road, Wimbledon, on 0845 606 3606 - they cover our area (we live in Nunhead) and also seem to cover most of S E London now.

Leave a note out in one of the milk bottles. May sound archaic but works

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
