Got the Mrs a Nexus 10. She can receive emails but there is a problem in that I don't know how to open attachments, which means she doesn't either. I've read everything I can find and watched U tube videos, but found nothing about this. She has two apps which supposedly allow you to read/edit documents. Strange thing is I sent her a TEST email and she was able to open that.

Can anyone advise what the problem might be and/or how to fix it? I guess it's one of those things that easy if you know how.

Thanks.

android will usually give you a list of apps capable of opening the attachment type, so it could be you need to download something.

Kindle works well for PDFs for instance. polaris office viewer works for most standard types too (and seemingly shipped with my samsung).

This may sound like a stupid question but there are Apps there which may or may not do the trick (the TEST was a Word Doc.)How does the attachment link to the App? Meaning how does one know the other is there? How do they connect?

She's uses AOL and Gmail via an App we found.

in short i don't know AM, im not espeially well versed with the working of the Android os.

I imagine it's some sort of file association type mcgubbins. I often get the option to use once or use always, and that association get saved in the application manager, and as of the latest update those associations can be deleted atomically as opposed to all or nothing which used to be the case.

ok (I usually use the gmail app), well on mine there are two tabs, message and attachments. on the latter by each attachment in the list you get a preview or a save button. preview then gives a choice of apps to preview with (with the once or always buttons).

If you're not getting any options then I guess you'll need the appropriate app. try sending yourself a jpeg, the in built gallery app at lest should appear as an option or automatically open it if you have no alternatives.

I have the same problem/tablet, some PDFs do not open and I am not promted to make a choice on how to open just a very quick message pops up

' attachment failed to open' by no means is it everything I am sent though. I have come to believe it is to do with the version/programme being used by the sender. Try accessing email via website rather than using app.

If anyone has indepth knowledge of these tablets please make yourself known... I also have questions!! x

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
    • Had another great meal there…. those that haven’t tried it, give it a go.. have a special lunch menu as well so you can get a flavour of the food.
    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
