I've been downloading Generation Kill - a seven part mini-series about a small company of marines during the recent Iraq conflict. It's by David Simon and Ed Burns of The Wire. Made by Brits and shot in South Africa. It is interesting. I thought there would be more action but I think it is designed to show the Catch-22-esq reality of ground troops - guns don't work, they get lost, missions change, incompetent people order strikes on the wrong targets, etc.

It's an HBO series and the production values are great, the script is lively and after watching one I have actively gone searching for more. However I don't think it has the same level of excitement and drama as the Wire. It's worth seeking out though. I am five episodes in with two to watch.

    • Hello, I'm from Ireland and would love my children to be able to know the language - I can speak it but I'm not so good at teaching it. If there's anyone local who used to teach Irish at primary school (preferably Connemara Irish) and who'd like to tutor 3 boys aged 7-10 for an hour or two a week please do let me know. Thanks, Sarah
