  1. I had a local person who regularly dumped rubbish on the corner of my street. Each time I opened the bag and had a look for a name and address of something included in the rubbish. The fourth or fifth time I found a name of a guy round the corner. I went round with his rubbish, banged on his door and told him to stop dumping rubbish in my street. Weirdly, he had an immaculate green bin - totally spotless inside. It hasn't happened since. Charlie
  2. Planning regulations say that any development within five meters of a boundary require planning permission. Therefore it doesn't matter about the 3m building under PD as you will need to get permission. I'm not referring to height or distance from walls. It sounds like the OP is building up to the boundary with the neighbour's property, so planning permission will be required. Charlie
  3. "1. development where the development is within 5m of a boundary of the curtilage of the premises" Means because you are building within 5 metres of the boundary then you will need planning permission, so you do not meet the criteria for permitted development. Assuming that you are building up to the border with your neighbour of course. Charlie
  4. You'll need to get planning permission as you will be extending your property up to the boundary. As you will need an architect to do the plans you can submit these plans as part of the planning application. Charlie
  5. First steps montessori nursery on Upland road by Goodrich School is fantastic although as you say the waitlists are exceptionally long but go and have a look. Our 2.5 year old son has been there since September and thrived. And they have a great back garden with a huge enclosed trampoline. Can never get him to come home
  6. Thanks Debi, I didn't know. I did a search of the forum before I posted. Anyway, I will email re joining. Charlie
  7. Rocc'a food isn't great which is a shame as the location and atmosphere is very good. Charlie
  8. Had a couple of responses but pushing this back to the top to see if there is any further interest. PM if so, Charlie
  9. Nothing sad about that - holidays are dull. PM me when you're back. Charlie
  10. I am thinking of starting a small short story writing group. The idea is that budding short story authors get together monthly to encourage and critique each others short stories. The aim is to encourage those of us (like me) that are keen to write but need a nudge to get started, and to provide a friendly group to provide feedback and support. I think I would try to keep the group to around five and aim to meet in each other's houses for a few hours in the evening once a month. If you're interested in joining, and have the will to write a short story, or are already writing short stories, let me know and I'll start to make arrangements. Please send me a PM telling me a little about yourself and your literary ambitions. I'm 40, male and would like to write crime fiction. Charlie
  11. Ate there last night. Great restaurant with a nice vibe and great atmosphere - loads of locals, service good, drinks cold etc. Food was OK but the pizzas we had weren't as good as Pizza Express, arancini were stodgy and rock hard on the outside - not as good as the ones that Pizza Express used to do. Bruschetta was served on some seriously weighty bread and was OK. All in all we liked it but the food was a bit short of the quality that we expected. The more serious mains look like a good option and it's nice that you can get a wide variety of food there. Charlie
  12. Just found keys on the pavement outside number 51 East Dulwich Grove. Banged on the door but no answer. If they are yours text or call me 07956831422 to arrange collection. Charlie
  13. It's perfectly normal for trendy bars to refuse entry to the wrong type of punter. That's why you have door staff. It's hardly fascist behaviour. And yes Sue, they should only let in young trendy good looking people. Charlie
  14. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "more discerning as to who it let in"? > > ::o They let me in with my depressed divoercee friend (bad choice), they let in a group of 6 pissed up large argumentative geezers (bad choice), they let in some very bored looking old men (bad choice) and the 12 or so trendy good looking young girls and boys that wandered in wandered straight out again because of the low quality punters that were in there. Charlie
  15. Went there once, got the worst service for miles around. Can't say I'm surprised it's not doing too well. Food was OK but when you've waited an hour while the staff have their breaks before they can be arsed to cook it for you, and the bar staff are rude to you for enquiring about the food, you tend to forget about the quality of the meals. Charlie
  16. I thought Boho bar was crap when I went for a couple of drinks recently. No door policy, random punters, pointless screen, not good. Shame because if it was more discerning as to who it let in, and a few details were adjusted I'm sure it could be a fine little place. Charlie
  17. There is a really good restaurant on Brick Lane - The Brick Lane Brasserie. It used to be BYO but now has a licence. Anyway, the food is really good. I've eaten there a few times. You'll need to book if there's more than four of you. Have a look online at the reviews. Charlie
  18. On the subject of car insurance, it doesn't matter if you have witnesses or not. You'll make a claim, your no claims bonus will be affected, the insurance companies will work out the claim between themselves. I think the helpful rhyming couplet of choice is, "it's a no claim bonus, not a no blame bonus." The need for witnesses would apply if you were taking legal action against the other driver. Charlie
  19. Try First Direct 08456 100 100. A human generally answers by the second ring. Charlie
  20. Mikecg Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I want one can you build it for me? No. But you only need a few simple ingredients - a non-working table top video game, a new PCB, loom and monitor. Ebay is your friend. Charlie
  21. http://blog.makezine.com/pac-finish.jpg I just built one of these using a Pac Man table top shell, new monitor and a multi-game board. It plays 60 classic arcade games so I've spent the last few days hammering Mr Do, Bomb Jack, Pengo, Pac Man, Ms Pac Man, Scramble, Galaga and Galaxian. It's superb. Charlie
  22. Just had a visit from the police to take details of the con woman. They advise that if she knocks on your door you should dial 999. They are actively looking for her. She is currently targeting Glengarry, Trossachs, Tarbert Roads apparently. Charlie
  23. I had a PCSO try to detain me and he did not have the power to arrest, or handcuff me. I told him I was leaving and I left. He had to radio for police backup to intercept me - don't worry, it wasn't serious, just a cycling offence. I was tempted to follow "Lisa" but I thought I had better wait in for the police. And it was cold and wet and late ;-) Charlie
  24. And by the way the PCSO and community wardens do not have the ability to arrest a criminal and are powerless, so pointless to involve them when there has been a crime committed. Charlie
