Lack of rules? The Quaker anachist! I'm not a quaker. But I approve. I used to work in the World of Spirits too. I got fired for nicking a bottle of scotch and had to get a job at Oddbins. Charlie
  2. I don't think high tea means that CWALD. But then I guess you're joking. Charlie

Faith is a challenging debate. I went to a Quaker school. Quakers have a nice take on god that I approve of. They believe that god is inherent in you and that if you want to talk to god then you don't need a church, you just need to sit quietly and talk to him, or in effect, talk to yourself. So when you have a moral decision or a crisis, sit and think it over. Talk to your god. This approach also means that you only have yourself to blame for things. You make your own choices and you live with the consequences. You are an existential being and nothing is guiding you, no fate, no external god, no heavens. Good luck in the big bad world, you'll need it. Charlie

  6. Perhaps instead of being photographed coming out of an establishment he could leave something at the establishment that identifies him, and could subsequently identify the son. For example he leaves a hankerchief with his initials on it. Or he drops his scarf on the way out which happens to have his surname embroidered on it. The photograph is a challenge. Do father and son have a rare item of clothing? Unlikely if they are estranged. Are they both unusually tall, or maybe they share a common feature - how about a patch of white hair just above the left ear. Charlie
  7. So far... Had a couple of Cadbury's Heroes but all the good ones have gone. Sent an email about phone numbers. Visited Ebay a lot Visited modified car forums. Had a rant about Indian service centres.
  8. I always liked this. With sound. http://www.rpatrick.com/more/spankmonkey/ Charlie
  9. It's the rooster that does the crowing, not the chickens. Rooster: http://www.wallsofthewild.com/rooster.jpg Chicken: http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/economy/pictures/chicken.jpg Charlie
  10. You'll have a challenge keeping the foxes out. I think they'll dig under the edges so make sure that your coop has a floor. Crafty little buggers. My ex lived on a farm that had around 120 chickens in a large run and the foxes managed to infiltrate that. Regularly. Charlie
  11. Someone comes on the forum asking about chickens and all you can suggest is that she grows vegetables? An onion is not a chicken. A broad bean is no substitute for poultry. You can't hear a marrow crowing at 5.00am can you? Get a coop of some sort - you could probably start with a simple frame and some chicken wire. Chicken wire is called chicken wire because it is designed for keeping chickens safe. I reckon a trip to B&Q or a garden centre will get you something you could start with. This is cheap: http://i9.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/c3/8e/476f_1.JPG http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Traditional-Chicken-Coop-Hen-House-and-Run_W0QQitemZ250199950191 Then you just need some straw, chicks, grain, water. Easy. Get it all this weekend. Get onto it. New year, new hobby, new chickens. Charlie

Apologies PeckhamRose I shouldn't mock. I don't believe there is anything after we die. Mediums, spirits and ghosts are all human inventions, some pure invention and some created by the subconscious during times of difficulty and stress. It's great that people believe in these things and I used to love doing Ouija boards and the like in the old wooden gym at school. My point about the DNA was designed to illustrate that our part in nature is so minor that the when you look at the big picture logic dictates that the spirit world or whatever you want to call it cannot logically exist. Things either exist and you know about them or they don't. If something exists then it is a something that you can interact with or comprehend or touch or witness. Things that don't exist just don't exist. There is no halfway between the two - spirits, god, ghosts, etc etc. Charlie
  14. Go for it! Chickens are great. Sure they're vulnerable and you'll have some incidents along the way but you have to start somewhere. http://www.poultry.allotment.org.uk/ http://www.rickschicken.co.uk/ Charlie
  15. Seconded. Stunning television. The best. www.amazon.co.uk for the Series 4 box. I'm waiting til it gets cheaper though. Charlie

The code lives. The code will always live. There is life in code. There will always be life in code. DNA is life. Life is DNA. There is no such thing as a spirit. A fireproof balaclava. Charlie

We are a small part of DNA's ongoing existance. DNA has been shifting and changing its own code for tens of millions of years. The dinosuars, the beetles, the birds, the humans, are all part of DNA's incredible ability to adapt itself to differences in environment. We all die but DNA continues to reproduce. There is always life after death, but not for us, only for DNA. Merry Christmas! Charlie

  20. In the spirit of goodwill, seasons greetings and general goodtimes, I am having a poker game at my house on the 30th. I know that a few people on the EDF have expressed an interest. It's Texas Hold em, 15 quid a head. I have friends on the invite list but I'm looking for more local players for future games. If you are concerned about the level of skill, don't be. We know our cards, so if you don't know that a flush beats a straight then gen up before you turn up. We are far from expert though, and a bit of fluke, coupled with some beer, bravado and banter makes for a good game. Send me a PM. I'll PM the few people that have responded before (if I can find them via the forum). Charlie
  21. I'm an ex Bellenden resident that crossed the ditch to ED. It's a nice spot but in the five years I was there I came across a lot of unpleasantness. I enjoyed my time there but the stabbings, murders, geezers, roughnecks, fights and police sirens weren't quite redeemed by Lucius & Richards, Ganapati and Fenton Walsh. Actually I really dislike Ganapati, and the restaurant opposite the Wishing Well. Loved it. Wouldn't go back. Charlie
