Kids at home, electricity run out, lives at no. 33 and... "I'm calling the police now," I said and she turned and hurried down the road. Charlie
  2. I was a bit disappointed that the police didn't nick her. She went off towards Dulwich village and I was hoping for a takedown, sirens, some sort of drama. Nothing. Anyway, keep an eye out and don't give her any cash. Nothing wrong with dialling 999 - you need to act fast to catch her before she gets away. Dialling the local police station would lose you valuable minutes. This woman is a serial criminal. She should be arrested and prosecuted. So dial 999 if she tries it on you. Charlie
  3. Oh well. Police clearly can't be arsed to do anything. Woman "Lisa" is long gone. I hate to think that anyone would actually open their door and hand over their cash to this thief. If you're going to run a scam, at least make it original or interesting. Charlie
  4. She's just banged on my door with the kids and no leccy story. Dialled 999. She's off up the road. Lets see what happens. Charlie
  5. They sold my house for me. But they forgot to do the paperwork. Anyway, who's next? Foxtons? Maybe we should have a sweepstakes. Charlie
  6. Love the shop, and the gig or two I've been to have been fun. Can you find a way to make it earn you a profit without the charity angle? Charlie
  7. Next time try to address the size of the gaps between the slats for a better finish. And creosote will help to protect it through winter. 8. All over, in a classic touring car series. Last week at Brands Hatch. Season is finished now - next race is March 22. Last race: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d37/charliemoseley/brandsHatch9.jpg Charlie
  9. Racing car. Bought last year. Running strong now and giving me lots of excitement: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d37/charliemoseley/brandsHatch1.jpg
  10. Not a bad suggestion, so say a garage is ?100 a month and cost ?10k to build and is built on 100sqft of land. Multiplier = ?100 a month for every ?20,000 of sale. ?20,000 for a garage - ?10,000 to build = ?10,000 = ?100 per sqft. Hmmm, too much. I have done a scan of some land for sale on Rightmove in various parts of east and south east London and for residential land it seems to come out between ?15 and ?50 per sqft depending on if it has planning permission on it or not. Charlie
  11. If I were to look at my back garden and think about building a workshop at the back of it, how could I value the land that it will be built on? By the square foot, obviously, but what can I compare it to? Does any bright spark have any input as to the cost of land in East Dulwich for building a garage or workshop. Not residential. Freehold cost. Your thoughts welcome. Charlie
  12. Was the ticket machine at the station out of order? Charlie
  13. jaybee82, I've sent you a PM.
  14. I've been downloading Generation Kill - a seven part mini-series about a small company of marines during the recent Iraq conflict. It's by David Simon and Ed Burns of The Wire. Made by Brits and shot in South Africa. It is interesting. I thought there would be more action but I think it is designed to show the Catch-22-esq reality of ground troops - guns don't work, they get lost, missions change, incompetent people order strikes on the wrong targets, etc. It's an HBO series and the production values are great, the script is lively and after watching one I have actively gone searching for more. However I don't think it has the same level of excitement and drama as the Wire. It's worth seeking out though. I am five episodes in with two to watch. Charlie
  15. In defence of Foxtons I think their shop front in Lordship Lane is great - much more interesting than the boring estate agents with cards in the window elsewhere. They are good at selling houses. Maybe not the most popular of businesses but they are not the devil incarnate. And at least all the branded minis have disappeared. Charlie

I think it's 1.2 million - based on a 3% commission. And not to keep her job, that's the next step up from basic. Charlie
  17. I'm just trying to buy a property through Foxtons and the Foxtons agent (typical Foxtons chick!) was telling me she has to make ?36k a week in commission. That must be a challenge at the moment. Charlie
  18. I embraced it by taking my business there rather than going to the place I normally go to. Yes, I am qualified to comment. No I am not slagging anyone off. I was a bit annoyed by the poor service I got but it's not the end of the world. The owner seemed like a nice guy and I appreciate that he should be supported for opening a local bike shop. On this occasion he wasted my time and lost a piece of my bike. I'm pleased that otherwise people have received good service. I hope the shop survives and thrives. 19. But if a thread title reads "Is Franklins any good?" why do we need a moderator to add "(advice wanted)" onto the end of it? Isn't that obvious? Charlie
  20. Why do the forum moderators feel the need to add "(wanted)" and "(advice wanted)" to thread titles? Charlie
  21. The rhubarb and custards were great. Best were Labrynth (1991), The Brain (1991), various raves between 1988 and the end of 1992 when it all went wrong IMO. Big club in Wandsworth was Club UK - it was rubbish. Charlie
  22. You'd think when you decide to open a bike shop in East Dulwich that you'd sort the shop out before you open, offer good service, be thorough and be polite. Oh dear. The new bike shop took my wheel in last weekend for a new spoke and to true the wheel. On Wednesday I get a plaintiff message "we've got no spokes". Today I got to the shop and listened to the manager/owner telling me how hard he'd tried to fix my wheel. He'd given me a black spoke that was too short, the wheel wasn't trued, he'd lost the axle and had to give me a replacement. And when I was there he was rude to the other shop assistant and rude to a customer (approximately 10 years old). What an embarrassment and this is such a shame because a local bike shop could be great. Charlie
