Normally I'd advise as much sleep as possible but if you don't have that option take four painkillers (your choice, the stronger the better in my opinion), wash down with a quadruple Kahlua topped up with milk in a pint glass. Down in one. Followed by a toasted bacon, cheese and tomato sandwich smothered in Sriracha hot chilli sauce. A jug of fresh coffee and some fresh orange juice. Take a long hot shower and you're ready to go again. The fresh air that hits as you leave the front door will also be beneficial to your sense of well being.

If travelling on public transport try not to engage with anyone. Do not make eye contact. They mean you harm. Wear shades. At work, keep your head down and get on with it. Oh, and take your shades off. You'll look a prat.

Water, painkillers/alka seltzer, a banana, 2 cups of tea. I'm normally a keen coffee drinker - 3 espressos to get me out the door in the morning, but I can't touch the stuff when hungover.

And a second sleep is absolutely vital, otherwise try to eat something with a bit of fat & carb - Jah's toastie and Sriracha is a great idea.

After big beers I neck 3x pints of water before crashing out, it's a ritual.

Take another pint of water to bed.

You get up to pee a bit.

Next morning plenty tea and full breakfast local cafe which is a sort of watershed - either I can face the day after that or it's back to bed, but I have to force it either way so I know where it is.

And there in lies the problem. Everyone is different, and a lot of the things suggested on here would make me instantly feel sick.

I KNOW!!

I reckon it defo had some illicit substance in it as it was magical how it worked so well.

No explanation. Just taken off the shelves.

You sometimes find a packet in independent stores. I found my stash in the 24/7 on Bellenden. I've been offered good money for it.

    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
    • The Dutch are addicted to New Year fireworks and spent €130million this year on them. However,  sales to individuals will be banned as from this year and celebrations will be organised by local and city councils. I have Dutch friends and for them, this can’t come soon enough. However, at least there it’s concentrated  on one night. Here, it’s never ending, any excuse to make a noise is seized upon with gusto. In addition to the annual celebrations, add birthdays, weddings, engagements, divorces, christenings, BBQs, etc etc. I dare say you can funerals to that list as well. Yesterday it started mid-afternoon and just carried on until the early hours. In the past, I’ve been woken up at 4am. Anyyone who doesn’t like it can go hang and you can ignore completely the  effects on people’s animals and wildlife. Don’t hold your breath about anything being done here, however.
