Beware!

Just wrote a really long account of my bad experience of employing Gary Skinner! Decided not everyone needs to read that so deleted it, but if you're thinking of employing him for anything other than painting/decorating - my advice is DON'T!!!

Pm me if you want more information, but in short he's unreliable, arrogant and extremely rude! Quoted me a high rate for doing various jobs he said he could do, but later decided were beyond his skills. That's fair enough, but I wouldn't have employed him if he had said that at first. Was very worried he could turn nasty, so called in friend when it was time to sort out payment.

Probably ok (or even good) as a painter/decorator, but wouldn't recommend him as a general handyman! Having said that, his bad language and unreliability would prevent me recommending him to anyone I know for any type of work.

My apologies for your disappointment , admittedly a few personal issues at home didn't help which I do not wish to discuss, but I have many other very happy clients past and present on here, rated people, which decorator, amongst other sites and areas. I'm sorry you felt the need to share this and I can only apologise whole heartedly, and should have maybe not taken on some of the specialised jobs you asked me to do , I.E welding and metal fabrication and washing machine repairs, at the time I did not antisipate these to turn into more skill full repairs than first expected .. Kind regards gary

I wouldn't recommend Gary either. We found him unreliable and rude, lots of excuses were made, and it was overall an unpleasant experience having him in our house. We are not happy about the quality of his work either, some of which we had to re-do ourselves. I also called Dulux to report this, only to find out that he was no longer a Dulux decorator, despite his claims. I understand that having problems at home may affect his work but does not justify him being so rude. K

    • I've actually met Luke Johnson and he's actually a very amicable, witty and extremely clever man. He's also created thousands of jobs and generated millions and millions of pounds of tax revenue for the government, offering goods and hospitality that countless millions of people have enjoyed over the decades. I'm not a fan of Gail's but I'm also not a fan of people who knock down good guys that have contributed a huge amount to this country.  Anyway, French Patisseries and southern hemisphere coffee don't belong on Farmer's markets.
    • What mandatory action would then be required of them?
    • Probably will be mandatory once Digital ID comes in.    They can then use the cameras on the tills too to bring all sorts of other useful ancillary controls, such as limiting how much alcohol you buy each week, or monitoring and limiting the carbon footprint of the food you buy (some foods now are already showing the CO2 emissions consumed in producing them).
    • At present several large retailers such as Co-op, Tesco, Waitrose, John Lewis, and Next use a cloud-based facial recognition system that gives instant alerts to the entry on the premises of known shoplifters.  Around £19 million incidents of retail theft (some with attacks on staff) occur ever year in the UK amounting in value to £2.6 Billion in value, involving 41,000 known offenders. Shoplifting adds to the retailer's costs and this is passed on eventually to honest shoppers, isn't there a case for F.R. to become mandatory at all retailers?
