Prettys cafe not so pretty 1 star hygiene rating!!

Went into prettys this morning as my boyfriend wanted a cooked breakfast, the place looked stinking so I checked out the hygiene score as it wasn't on the door, which I thought was illegal... Anyway when

I checked it had 1 star which is dreadful and I immediately left before I ordered.

Food Standard Agency - WEB site ---- In England and Northern Ireland, when you eat out or shop for food, you might see a sticker in the window or on the door, or a certificate on display, showing you the hygiene rating for that business. Businesses are encouraged to display these stickers and certificates at their premises in a place where you can easily see them when you visit. In Wales, from 28 November 2013, those businesses who receive a new FHRS sticker that includes the Welsh Government logo will have to display it in a prominent place ? such as the front door, entrance or window and provide information on their rating verbally, if asked.

Not sure why people are surprised that there are a lot of low ratings within Dulwich when chefs from various eateries here are outside smoking and sitting on the ground/steps with their aprons/uniforms still on , or the ones walking into their businesses with Iceland shopping bags or the unmarked non-refrigerated vans that deliver their meats.

If that is acceptable to them then I dread to see their kitchens.

Thankfully not all of them adopt these practises but there is a fair few which I won't name but its evident by their low ratings !

What has Iceland shopping bags got to do with anything?

The Criteria for Hygiene Ratings:--

How hygienically the food is handled ?

how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored.

The condition of the structure of the buildings ?

the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities.

How the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe

So some of these are incidental to actual Food Hygiene

Perhaps a place has no disabled facilities/ access.

Perhaps the building is old. The lighting is poor.

I would tend to ignore these ratings and judge by my own experience.

Oh yeah, like you get to look behind the scenes like the inspectors do! They don't just hand out these ratings willy nilly. I suggest you watch exactly what the staff do next time you're in there. Keep running across the road, it won't be long.

Who gives a shit about the so-called Hygiene ratings, even those in the industry scorn them.

Pretty's has always been fine in my book. Makes me wonder why the OP and their partner bothered going in the door if the "place looked stinking" as they claim. If I thought a place looked rank, I wouldn't bother going in. Not as if there's a paucity of other places to choose from either.

I have never been in the place.. I rarely use cafes. But having said that, I would be

more concerned about the so called 'Top' restaurants and Hotels when it comes to hygiene.

Could not even begin the understand exactly what you were trying to say..

Nothing new there then....

OP? Actually I didn't realise what it was like until I entered the premises, someone elses baked beans caked onto the menu rang alarm bells and that's when I checked out the score before swiftly exiting. Yes there are other places and I went somewhere else with higher cleanliness standards!

Where to next?

    • Where did I say he did a good job? Yup and Corbyn was very close to Len McCluskey and funded by Unite wasn't he...they're all as bad as each other... Labour have to purge their party of the far-left - they're a disaster. Allan Johnson summed it up so well on election night in 2019....
    • Thank you for the detailed advise @trinidad It is definitely damage we are concerned about. I don’t think Evri would agree to pay the bill to fix our gate or letter box if they were to be damaged as a result of their delivery drivers helper. Our doorbell can be heard from outside when rung so we don’t quite believe the aggressive simultaneous door/letter box banging is necessary. It can be quite a shock it is done very aggressively.  I’ll definitely action the steps you’ve kindly provided along with a phone call tomorrow. I do sympathise with the role drivers have and how busy they are, which is why we tried communicating directly with her but sadly we haven’t succeeded
    • What outcome would you like? Disciplinary action? Not to have the driver back? Retraining? I know there is alot of pressure on drivers to deliver within a set day. if he slams the gate, is it evidence he is causing damage, or is the noise a irritant to yourself? You could put a sign up or buy a signing asking to close the gate gentle???? can you hear the door bell from the door? he might be ringing, not hearing and therefore knocking. In trhe notes section of the be livery page, there is a note section, although there is not 100 per cent these notes would be read as these drivers are constantly rushing.  I did a google search for you, i found this and you can try the envri website Contact Us | Evri   To complain to Evri, you can follow these steps: Contact Customer Service: Call Evri's customer service at 0330 808 5456 for assistance with your complaint.    1 Write a Letter: Address your complaint to Capitol House, 1 Capitol Close, Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS27 0WH.    1 Use the Official Website: Visit the Evri complaints page on their official website for detailed instructions on how to submit a complaint.    2 Email or Call for Specific Issues: For issues like missing or damaged parcels, you can email or call 0800 988 8888, which is free to call.    1 These methods will help you effectively communicate your concerns to Evri.   My driver is called anthony, he is brilliant to be honest. I cant fault him.
    • When I have more time and energy, I will look up the actual number of votes cast for each party in that election, rather than the number of seats won. I'm interested to see that you apparently  think that  Boris Johnson did a good job of "leading the country through Covid." Is your memory really that short? I won't stoop to calling Johnson and his cronies names in the way that you seem to think is appropriate for left wing politicians. At least the left wing politicians have some semblance of morals and a concern for people who aren't in some over privileged inner circle and/or raking in money for themselves on the back of an epidemic. I'm not going to open a can of worms on here  by commenting on the disgraceful so called "purge".
