Stair Gate Advice

Hi there

Like lots of people in ED and Camberwell I live in a Victorian terraced house with stairs and bannisters. I'm interested to know what other people have done about stair gates. In particular which ones will work when there is a wall on one side and bannisters on the other. Can I use pressure fit or do they need to be attached? Which brand to people recommend. I've attached pictures below of the two places I want a gate complete with kamikaze baby in one of them.

Hi i have the same bannister and wall.i use pressure gates which are easy to fit and remove ( when needed) i brought mine from mothercare. Hope this helps.

Hi I had the same thing - had to attach a baton of wood along one one of the bannister spindles to attach the gate to as needed 'flat' surface to put screws into .

Ha, I saw that also and thought genius! We screwed one of the cups that come with the gates into the post at the bottom which then provides a flat surface for the gate.

It does damage the post though, have found some form of remedial work always necessary after stair gates but unavoidable really...

the baton to banniser approasch described above was beyond me and hubby's DIY skills. so we put the stiar gate across baby bedroom door so there was a safe zone. no stair gate on actual stairs. three children and multiple visitors and no issues. Stair gates are not compulsory.

Never bothered after the first child, too many people going up and down all the time ot faf with stair gates. Just spent a few days when Nos 2 and 3 started going upstairs teaching them to come down safely backwards.

Don't bother they are a pain in the neck. As long as you supervise your kids and can shut the door to keep them in a room when you need to dash out you will be fine.

Babydan and lindam both sell y-shaped attachments for their pressure fit gates so you can have flat wall on one side and spindles on the other.
