Cassius
The walk to Camberwell is nice but the Walworth road is ghastly to walk along - are there any alternatives? Jeremy
Old Kent Road? Residential streets in between Walworth Road and Old Kent Road (going through Burgess Park if you feel brave)? SeanMacGabhann
Walworth Rd in the morning is fine - lot's of space. But on the way back after work the streets are much busier and, frankly a pain. giggirl
Is there some sort of TFL rulebook making it mandatory for there to be at least one smelly person on the bus at all times? There is no justification for causing that much trouble the police have to be called to remove you from a public vehicle. I'm surprised no one on the bus thew them off, but then I don't know the circumstances. Cassius
But the Walworth road is so UGLY - I'd rather be on a bus with my nose in a book so I don't have to see it, whilst the walk over Dog Kennel Hill can be quite pleasant. KalamityKel
Planned bus strikes have now been called off due to injunctions being taken out against the unions. Nero
Although I live in the (*cringe alert for some*) Upper East Side, I prefer to walk to Denmark Hill or even C'well Green to get a bus. Even then, I have to brave Walworth and Elephant, but at least I miss out on the damned road works on LL and the crush around King's. The walk takes about 35 - 40 mins, but it means I don't sit on a bus thinking 'I hate sitting on a bus'. I am not sure whether the bus routes have had more buses put on them during the past few years when ED has seen a population growth, or at least a growth in the population that uses buses to get to and from work. The buses on the 12 route have very poor suspension, and rattle and shake. The vehicles used on other bendy routes don't seem to be as bad. At least the new, improved 176 vehicles don't have wooden floors, a la Mao era Shanghai trolley bus.
