We all know the co-operative group is in trouble, mostly due to the banking division. However, just been reading this article on the bbc news website which says that the group will be selling off a majority stake of its Somerfield store acquisitions, more especially the larger stores, where does this leave our big store on lordship lane? Is our store considered larger? The thought of yet another empty large retail space fills me with dread.

nxjen whilst I appreciate alarmism may be premature, looking at the case study of 86-90 Lordship Lane (Iceland) we know what incoming and proposed ideas can do to polarise the community and lead to long term uncertainty. If, as appears to be the case, the Co-operative group decides to let our store go, we potentially are heading for another severely polarised and long drawn out argument about any incoming retailer (no names mentioned) which will further damage community relations as well as the high street. I just would like some more certainty over what the future of this store is going to be, we can't have yet another crazy planning nightmare on our hands.

    • if you want to get an idea of what the height would be like, the development on Bournemouth Road just off Rye Lane (where the Barclays is) is i think about 8 floors. So it's got height to it, but not Aylesham proposal height. The development above the f45 is also 7 floors. So the height in this instance doesn't necessarily bother me, rather the inevitable lack of a decent amount of affordable housing for local people and families. These "flats" look tiny, and i'd say are more like a really nice dorm room than anything else.
    • Not sure how you define overtaxing, I expect most of the population would like to pay less tax.  One of the panel on Kuensseberg, not the young influencer, nor the unreconstructed old man (the opposite of 'new man') Piers Morgan), was fairly knowledgeable and explained that measures to improve growth such as an improved deal with the EU and trade agreements, are done elsewhere.
    • Ryan Campbell from MS Heating and Plumbing is a lifesaver! I needed a new boiler installed urgently and I was struggling to find anyone with availability. Ryan juggled his jobs around and installed the boiler the next day. He has done a very professional job and came back a week later to flush the system and check everything was working properly including fixing a radiator that wasn’t warming up. Great communication and a lovely guy. His number is 07939 981908
