This is just a heads up again about the thread on the main bit of the forum about changes to the one o'clock club in Peckham Rye. Think it more likely that the people here would be interested than the main thread where there is moaning about spending the money! The plans seems to be to move the club away from the car park and cafe and up to where the adventure playground is. Renata is working on getting the plans online, but do look at the other thread for details.

Hi all, as some of you may go straight to the family room, I'm duplicating my post from the main forum page, in case some of you here are interested to read about what is the situation with the Small Acres School and the Adventure Playground. Also to add, that Play Services are thinking to make a part of the adventure playground area more interesting to older children with high wires, walkways etc. Anyone's thoughts on this?

The Small Acres school, is a small group of home schooling parents who pay rent for use of the Adventure Playground area for group homeschooling. They rent this during the daytime, during school terms when other children are at their own schools and therefore don't use this room to play table tennis etc (the facility wouldn't be open for public use then). This is similar to eg private Nurseries who may rent a TRA or Church Hall during the week. The currently rent the space for two or three sessions a week, their bookings are done on a short-term, termly basis. Anyone can book this space. Local primary schools do book it for outdoor activities too. It can be booked by community groups or individuals(eg for birthday parties). Either speak to Terry Jones, the playworker on site after school/Saturday or email Garry Martin in Southwark Play Services [email protected]. Currently, Monday and Friday during school hours and Sunday afternoon are available, also Saturdays during school holidays. The rent from the Small Acres Group and anyone who hires the facility goes directly back into the Adventure Playground Kitty, to enable all our children to use the facilities for free, after school, on Saturdays and during school holidays. The homeschoolers can use Peckham Rye Park just as any other user. Any local child can go into the park and measure trees etc! I hope this clarifies the situation.

    • The other thing is that the money the council makes from the festival is not spent in the local area, whereas money made from events in other parks are. Renata Hamvas would have to approve any change to the premises licence before the events team can consider a license for the proposal in the current form. There needs to be an organised local pushback this time, to at least stop that second weekend being granted. I am thinking along the lines of a door to door petition. There are local elections next May. Lot's of opportunity to make this an election issue for impacted wards around the park. Just need to be orgaised.
    • yes.. I think it has. I prefered it when Everyone Active had the contract..and an additional benefit was being able to acess other EA gyms across London. Plus I think the equipment in the gym was of better quality.
    • Mad that on a thread about the telegraph (and are we saying they  are a paragon of reporting? Are we?) it just happens to be the bbc and only the bbc copping the flak headnun - I’m not sure your point about despicable people “hanging themselves” holds up in a world where despicable people appear to be taking over in so many places  for too long, these people have been given equal airtime to normal people, creating a false equivalence - the result being a lot of people seem to think “well if one person thinks smoking is bad for you and one person thinks it’s good for you, who am I to say who is right and wrong”
