Does anywhere in ED show the rugby? Guinness Premiership, Heineken Cup, EDF etc.

I've tried to persuade the CPT, which is a stone's throw from me, to show it but was told that it was 'A Football Pub'. The two punters in there seemed to be more interested in their pint than the game they were showing. I didn't argue as the beer there is hellish expensive and the place has an atmosphere like a morgue...

Is it possible to get away from football or am I in the wrong place?

A few pubs in ED show Six nations games and internationals, but otherwise the answer is no. The Magdala used to show Heineken cup games on Saturdays (and was also the best location to watch internationals), but football always took precedence on Sundays. However, the new owners have removed all screens (and generally feminised the place) so a subscription to Sky or joining a local rugby club are your best bets. Kings College Hospital RFC is based in Dulwich Village.

I've seen them showing Rugby Union in the East Dulwich Tavern a few times. South Africa v Wales, Heineken Cup... I think the general rule of thumb in EDT is Premiership football has priority unless it's the England rugby team.

Again unless there is some top football on I'd recommend paying a visit to the Vale opposite train station which is a pub most inclined to look after the armchair sportsman - I think if the TV inactive they'll switch it on even if it's EDF Cup but probably muted.

    • I do worry English people are focusing on “the flag” and their own wistful nostalgia (how very English) rather than what’s happening with the flag in 2025 stop analysing it as the mere national flag and have a look at it for what it is - the useful tool of intimidation by some extremely dodgy people (see also the Irish tricolour when the IRA were active) defeat the problem, then you can reclaim the flag  pretending there is no problem whilst saying “it’s just a flag” is just…. Sigh
