Does travel cot need a mattress?

Hi,

I was given a travel cot and soon I have a friend staying with a baby and I was wondering if I need to buy a mattress to put inside the travel cot?

The outside that folds around the cot when folded is the mattress

to the cot it's slightly padded and sufficient as a travel cot :)

I never bothered, just used 2 sheets.

We used to find our little one wouldn't sleep in a travel cot ( we think because it wasn't as padded) so we used to put a single duvet in it then a sheet over the top to make it more padded, worked a treat and no problems once it was a bit comfier.

Same here, the other thing we did was a sheepskin under the sheet.

Another vote for a duvet around the "mattress" bit - seemed to really help our son settle in a travel cot.
