Becola
has anyone else been to vote today at Heber school? Just curious as the Lib Dem rep outside was.... putting this politely..... incredibly persistent in trying to find out my voter roll number. I realise it helps them with last minute campaigning but i didn't want to share personal info with her - she was really quite rude about it. Loz
Actually it helps them identify active voters - if you vote in the Euros, you'll probably vote at most polls and so worth hassling next time around. All parties do it.That's not to excuse any rudeness. Hope you told her to foxtrot oscar. Becola
Of course, and I really don't mind them asking - good to see people campaigning rather than being apathetic - but twice on the way in, and twice on the way out is a bit much. Especially when you politely decline the first time.....I didn't have the nerve to tell her to foxtrot oscar! She'd have probably exploded with rage - she was fairly obviously irritated I wouldnt even tell her where i live.... Pugwash
Tellers must not ask for people's polling number on the way in, only on the way out. having done telling for over 20 years - it is generally good fun. The number is shared between all parties to get an indication of the turn out.You need to be polite at all times - many people do not want to give you their number - that's fine. She must have been new at Telling. Becola
Thanks pugwash - didn't realise they weren't allowed to ask on the way in. Such a bad advert for her party - such a shame, as she probably took a whole day out of her life to try and help a cause she obviously cares deeply for! the-e-dealer
Accurate Turn out is freely available to party reps inside the Polling Station. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/44638-voting/#findComment-749257 Share on other sites
maxxi
At Darrel Road we had a very polite and indeed rather diffident libdem chap asking for numbers - it was all I could do to stop myself offering to fetch him a sandwich Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/44638-voting/#findComment-749308 Share on other sites
JohnL
I got 'mugged' by a bunch of candidates & canvassers all shouting at me last time I voted (not around here - tower hamlets)Back in Wales it was all done rather seriously - no canvassers allowed near the polling station - so was shocked by it. Otta
I think having peole holding signs with the name of the party and "polling station this way" is a good idea, reminding people to vote, and possibly making them think of your party. But if anyone actually started trying to convince me which way to vote right outside the polling station they['d stand a good chance of losing my vote. People for the most part don't decide who they're voting for inside the polling station, they go there knowing more or less what they#re going to do.
