Hello!

Dulwich Helpline and Southwark Churches Care provides friendly volunteer support to isolated older people in Southwark. We provide one-to-one befriending, run activity groups across the Borough, provide practical support such as light gardening or helping with small odd jobs in the home, provide volunteer transport and organise inter-generational work with local schools. Our services are free to people in Southwark aged 60+ and we currently support over 500 older people.

We help to alleviate loneliness and support social networks which improve older people?s quality of life. We simply couldn?t support so many older people in our local community without our fantastic 300+ volunteers! We are always looking for more volunteers to work with us - if you?re interested have a look at a short film we had made about us by a volunteer film-maker - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giaru0aWO9U

If you could spare an hour or two a week, or volunteer less regularly, see our website for more details www.dhscc.org, e-mail us at [email protected] or phone us on 020 8299 2623. We are also on Twitter @DHandSCC or find us on Facebook by searching for ?Dulwich Helpline and Southwark Churches Care?.

If you want to make a difference to an older person?s life, we have a volunteer opportunity to suit you!

Hello Simone,

I'm sorry we weren't quick to reply to you - I hope someone has replied by now? If not, please email us again on [email protected]

ana maria - I know that you are already in the process of becoming a volunteer, which I hope is going smoothly! We look forward to welcoming you as an offical volunteer very soon.

We are still looking for more volunteers as we have a long waiting list for local older people wanting a befriender once each week for an hour, as well as needing more volunteers for current and new social groups that we run. Please get in touch if this sounds like something you are interested in.

Many thanks,

DH & SCC

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!
    • Hi  I really thought I'd seen a more recent post on the forum about home education meet ups. I can't find it though. • Thanks for your reply. I’ve subscribed to Ancestry a few times in the past but felt I wasn’t using it enough to warrant keeping up the subscription.
    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
