KidKruger
Japanese knotweed in the area is not a rumour - it's a fact !!Threads on here from last year evidence that. verds
Yeah, Japanese Knotweed is more than a rumour in my garden as the previous occupiers claimed they didn't know of any - then the neighbours told me it's rife and they couldn't get a mortgage because of it.That's why I'm questioning every weed! TheePope
I'm pretty certain it's bindweed. Which is a pest but not in the same league as knotweed, you'll see it everywhere in the summer - look out for hedges with lots of foliage and large trumpet white flowers. Just treat the leaves with Roundup (spray or get a stick and paint it on the leaves) and then leave it until it dies back (usually within 1 - 2 weeks).http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=241 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45774-gardeners-name-that-weed/#findComment-756923 Share on other sites

Jeremy
Definitely not JK, the stems grow straight up and wouldn't wind round like that. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45774-gardeners-name-that-weed/#findComment-756929 Share on other sites

*Bob*
That's true, but with five neighbouring gardens which all have bindweed here and there, tracing back to the root isn't really an option!A bit of intermittent ripping when you're tending to other stuff is all it takes. maxxi
or call it Morning Glory and just keep it trimmed/trained back and remove the flowers before they seed - it can be attractive Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/45774-gardeners-name-that-weed/#findComment-757048 Share on other sites
uncleglen
Yes, bindweed. I'm sure there is a massive growth of the dreaded Japanese Knotweed at the back of Forest Hill Maplin anyone else seen it? LadyDeliah
This is not a weed, but I think it came from a pack of mixed wildflowers. Can anyone tell me what it's name is because it looks gorgeous when all the flowers are out? maxxi
I think that's a Californian Poppy Lady D. They tend to flower in the day and wrap up at night. LadyDeliah
Yes that's what they do. They have long flower pod buds before the flowers fully develop. I might see if I can get some seeds. I really like them.I've got cornflowers in my mix too and they are lovely. maxxi
When the petals drop off leave the seed-containing stems alone as they will continue to grow and swell, when they are starting to dry out you can slit them open for lots of seeds.
