Otta
Thought I MIGHT wake up this morning to the news that Povetkin had beaten Wlad, but he wasn't even close 119 - 104 on all three xards I think. KidKruger
Yeah had some buddies over to watch it. Ugly horrible fight. Vlad did the punch-clinch shuffle and cheated with some throws. Povetkin is tough with heart but not in the same grade (as per rest of HW contenders). Vlad jabbed Pov's head off all night. Mismatch, as it could only ever have been.Even Marco Huck took Pov to task, so it was never gonna be a problem for Vlad the giant. KidKruger
Lennox Lewis and Promoters in talks for ?100 Million Klitschko Comeback Fight !Provisional training underway allegedly.v Vitali = Lossv Vladimir = LossThe K Bros have been fighting since Lewis retired like 8 years ago, how can Lewis possibly hope to get back to where he was physically ? He may get paid but the odds are heavily against him - in that sense it's a perverted fight, a payday fight. Jeremy
Remember the alleged Steve Collins comeback vs Roy Jones Jr? Well... this would be like Steve Collins vs Andre Ward. Pointless!I think he knows it won't happen, he's just having a bit of fun.Otta Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> He just looks fat now.Yep. Otta
And in the break they advertised an 8 part series called "Sports life stories" (starting on Tuesday) one if which will ve about Chris Eubank. In the trailer he said "I lost my instinct to finish", something I've never heard the man himself talk about, even though it was obvious to all of us watching him. KidKruger
good tip - cheers, caught the last 30 mins.Other Stuff. One of the most impressive attempts to win a world title in the least no. of fights is Vasly Lomanchenko. He won his first pro fight last Saturday against a tough seasoned pro (25-3, 15 KO?s), who's no mug. His second fight, in January, will be for a World title. From memory he's Featherweight. He was an outstanding pro, something like 396-1. Two Olympic golds. Two World golds. Unheralded record. If he wins in Jan, I expect it'll be a record. Beibut Shumenov (LHW) did it in like 9 or 10 fights. This guy is surely one to watch on 2014. Him and Rigondeaux (the outstanding Cuban ex-amateur) would be something. Jeremy
Apparently (if you believe it) they wanted to go for a title fight on his debut, but they couldn't get it sanctioned. KidKruger
Well that would have been something ! Probably somewhere it's happened before, either in an obscure division or far back in time when it was just easier to pull it off, if you had amateur / prize-fighting pedigree.Earlier this year Timothy Bradley (WW) had a proper contest against Ruslan Provodnikov who'd come-up from LWW to challenge for Bradley's title. It was a definite FOTY candidate. My appreciation for TB has multiplied hugely, he got the win but was battered and wobbled a few times, showing heart I'd not know he had even part of.Last weekend Provodnikov had his 2nd chance at a title (but at LWW) against Mike Alvarado and this time he won, after retiring his man in R10. Apparently another FOTY candidate, but darn it I cannot find it to watch on youtube or anywhere. This Provodnikov is pretty good and hopefuly he now can pair-off against guys like Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthyse, Adrien Broner, Devon Alexander and Khan. He does take a bit of punishment so may not be around for ever, but he just keeps-on coming, cuts you off and administers the pain. When interviewed after the contest with Alvarado, he was asked "do you realise you're now regarded as the baddest man in the world at your weight ?" He said, "It's funny that I'm feared, really I'm a very kind person". Certainly one to watch the next couple of years, especially now he's a title-holder.As an aside, it's weird how Alvarado beat Brandon Rios, yet Pacquiao chose Rios as his next opponent. david_carnell
No mention of Carl Frampton winning again in defence of his Euro title so far. So, here. Good fight. CF looks genuinely talented and should be fighting for a world title sooner rather than later. He hits hard and moves well. A true Macguigan product.Yamanaka is a dirty but limited champion who is defending his title later in Nov. Tomoki Kameda is probably one to avoid in that division though - he fights like a Mexican whirling dervish and is super aggressive. KidKruger
Good call DC.I didn't see the contest but it was obviously covered in the UK boxing sites. On BoxNation's Buncey hour they interviewed 'Carla' to discuss the win. Barry McG has been singing Frampton's praises now for a couple of years so it's good to see the results coming through. Having seen the post-fight antics of Barry McG, you'd be forgiven for thinking that he had won the contest, not Frampton !Who's the Yamanaka guy, a belt holder that Carl could face ? Jeremy
I can't read about Carl Frampton without picturing an open-shirted (and slightly creepy) Peter Frampton doing his voice box routine. Still... I hear he'd pretty handy. Let's hope Frank Warren does the right thing by him (i.e. not a WBO belt followed by years of defences against poor opposition). There are three Kameda brothers, two are champions (WBO and WBA I think) and the youngest is a real handful. It's like mini-Klitschkos! KidKruger
If the weights are appropriate we could pitch the Kameda bros against Liverpool's 3x Smith brothers (when they've a bit more experience), that'd cover most of a card !BTW Another contest on 2nd November to watch might be Magomed Abdusalamov who is fighting another unbeaten HW:Magomed Abdusalamov (18-0, 18) v Mike Perez (19-0,12).Can you believe Magomed has only boxed 31 rounds in total !!He's a fave of mine - no messing, hunt and eliminate, which will probably be his undoing one day, though he's WBC #4, WBA #10. Perez Has beaten Travis Walker who's a big dude.Good year so far. Froch and Groves will be a cracker too. KidKruger
I missed the fight as I was away, but one that i was looking forward to was Abdusalamov v Perez (as mentioned in previous post). BAD news is Magomed complained of severe headaches after the fight and upon examination a small blood clot was found on his brain - he's now induced into coma while they try deal with it.It's a big shame and possibly a career-ender (or life-ender). Apparently the fight was a proper tear-up where each had their strong periods. I'd always wondered how Mago would do when faced with a live opponent, it now seems he probably has had a few already, but Perez was a beast too. Both showed extreme heart.I think there's an argument for Magomed perhaps having been withdrawn sooner (against his will). Some boxing fans condemn boxers who 'quit' during a fight, which is easy to say sat in a pub, but not quitting can have such dire consequences that no-one will benefit. Let's hope he can make a full recovery, Perez must be in a bad way too because Abdusalamov is devstating and apparently caught Perez many many times. KidKruger
Seems Magomed has had a stroke since the brain op but is now stable, let's hope it's a full recovery - though I expect from this magnitude of injury boxing is out of the question. Real shame because he's got a young family and was in process of becoming a US citizen in California.Froch v Groves is on 23/11.I'm around that weekend, anyone fancy getting together to watch the contest a la Froch v Kessler 2 ?I'll will contact the Rose later to see if they're shoing the fight, however any other venues likely to show this ? Otta
Dunno if I'd just missed this, but it seems Nathan Cleverly has moved up to Cruiser and is making his return on November 30th. KidKruger
Yeah I read that recently, it could explain why he always looked so trim at 175. But not being a banger at 175 I don't see how he can give (or take) it at 200lbs. Against Lebedev (who took a juiced Guillermo Jones's best) and Marco Huck I wouldn't rate his chances as good, in fact any of the current world cruisers. Maybe it's not a case of looking at it like that though, perhaps he needs to work his way into the weight and look at his option in a year or two. However for him to be talking about a Cruiser world title by end of 2014 is silly IMO, perhaps David Haye should come down and face him (while waiting for 'the big fight')! Jeremy
He was a bit of a lean LHW wasn't he... I mean, muscular, but not as bulky as some of the other guys.He probably feels like there is less talent at CW, so an easier route to a title. And he may be right, I guess. But it's a double edged sword... very few big, marketable fights out there at CW.
