It was an evenly matched fight, in theory could have gone either way.

Froch played a better game this time, but he'll always talk as if his wins are preordained !

Groves looked gutted, as he should be, but he'll come back.

Froch v Chavez Jr is something to look forward to. He shouldn't fight GGG because he'll be stopped in 4, maybe sooner.

People used to say that Froch is not as good ad Calzaghe and won't achieve the same legacy.

I think Froch's legacy now outshines Calzaghe's, just based on who he's faced.

IMO Calzaghe would have beaten Froch on points, but legacy-wise Froch is the man now.

Calzaghe has too many em question marks over who he fought at end of his career.

Yeah but possibly Pavlik - or Jermain Taylor - might have stepped up for the right price. It happens.

Ricky Burns is probably finished, I'm afraid. Writing's been on the wall since the Beltran fight.

Yes... but it seems like Warren claims almost every fight is a world title eliminator. Rarely is it actually true.

Fury really needs to get back into action, what with this and the Haye disappointment.

So Fury/Chisora are now back on for Oct/Nov, with Fury saying he'll 'make Chisora pay' for postponing the contest.

This Saturday Sheffield's Kell Brook finally gets his world title shot, after a sequence of injuries continually delayed his/Devon Alexander's ability to contest the belt. Meanwhile, Shawn Porter worked his way into contention, beating-up Alexander, making him Kell's opponent this weekend.

Porter recently KO'd Pauli Malignaggi, who's usually got a strong defense and movement. Shawn Porter cut the ring off and dismantled Pauli round by round. I hope this was due to Pauli's slowing-down through age.

Brook is a great boxer, with good power and excellent counterpunching, but he's never shared a ring with anyone near Shawn Porter's talent - Shawn and Keith Thurman surely are taking over the Welterweight division. Shawn is a beast, though he did struggle a bit with Julio Diaz (Khan ?).

I hope Brook wins (if so it'll need to be a KO, as the fight's in Vegas), but if forced to bet my house it'd have to be on Porter by points.

Meanwhile Deontay Wilder, somehow a #1 contender with one of the governing bodies having never fought a top 50 HW, fights a #103 ranked opponent.... WTF !

Brook wins !!

Great win for him against one of the two feared WWs in the division (Thurman being the other, actually perhaps Maidana as well). I haven't watched the fight yet, but to win on points against a US champ in the USA is something.

I just hope this doesn't mean Khan fighting Brooks, instead Brook could / should face Bradley, Provodnikov, Chris Algieri (who's fighting Pacman next), Maidana, Thurman.

I've read complaints of Brook holding Porter as he came-in swinging, but that's down to the ref and Porter's corner can complain/appeal during the contest if they're that miffed about it.

Apparently the two boxers' faces told the story at the end, Brook having used his jab effectively.

ETA:

Just watched the YT clip of the contest (search on "kell brook vs shawn porter full fight" for a Polish version, complete with 'RunDLL' errors blocking part of the screen). There was equivalent amount of holding, more so towards the end from Porter as he tired. It was basically the same format from start to finish, Porter like a milling machine jumping in with constant short hooks while Brook either caught him on the way in with straights and jabs or stayed-put to clinch and spoil Porter's work. Brook took a lot of rabbit punches to back of head from Porter and a lot of headbutts, as he threshed during clinches. All the slo-mo between rounds showed Porter geting caught as he jumped-in, not Porter landing - because he hardly landed by comparison.

Fair win to Brook by 117-111, 116-112. Heaven knows what the even score from the third judge was about (well, we all know actually.

Good win, having watched it now it seems the reason why Porter did Malignaggi in only 4 rounds was Paulie M. didn't have the power to keep Porter honest as he jumped-in, whereas Brook clearly did. Brook was the better boxer and it took something to own that beast Porter.

Thought I'd posted yesterday but clearly not.

All the talk (including from Brook himself) is about a Khan fight, it seems to be the one Brook really wants and I'm guessing it's because he feels he's been unfairly kept in Khan's shadow and I think he really does want to beat him.

And now there's a title involved, and having seen froch v groves at wembley, Khan seems up for it.

I hope they do it and I hope Brook wins.

    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
