My great uncle who died at the battle of the somme in 1916 and who's remains were never recovered, will be remember tonight. Very very fond memories of my grandmother telling us stories, and how upset she always seemed without fully understanding why. My lights will be going out at 10 and I shall light a candle in his memory and every other young man who served in a most horrific war.

Louisa.

My lights were out at 10 with only a candle until 11. I think it's a good thing that we still remember the events of that horrific 'War to end all wars', if only to keep the memories of all whose lives were sacrificed alive.

It's a shame that nothing has been learnt from it.

    • @NewWave I know how you feel. Like you, I've lived and spent prolonged periods of time in some pretty crazy places and always thought I could handle a bunch of kids. But, no - they got to me and I was shaking like a leaf afterwards. That's what age does to us.  But I did engage with them, so bear that in mind.  My advice would be to never let anything like that stop you doing the things you love. I'm certainly not going to stop using the park, there's no way they get to take away our cherished spaces!  If you see them, just change tack and keep out of their way. My dog won't even go that way again, so that's that problem solved. (If I see them again, I'm going to keep taking photos from a safe distance).
    • Truly horrific. Being passive or fighting back is what many of us think about by violent theft.
    • What ridiculous waste of money
    • Lots of good primary schools within reach of there. Fairlawn, Goodrich, Ivydale and Horiman. Secondary schools you will definitely get into the Harris Academies or Sydenham Girls or Forest Hill Boys, you might just be on the boundary for the East Dulwich or North Dulwich Charter but it changes every year.
